I feel like with all of this talk about denim over the past few years — what’s in, what’s out — we’ve redefined denim. It truly used to just be skinny jeans and now it’s wide leg, it’s straight leg, flare and I suppose now bootcut, too. I’d like to propose a new denim concept, not necessarily a silhouette: the mom jean. Yes technically this is a type of jean — high rise, straight leg with a vaguely 80s silhouette. But I think a mom jean can be anything you toss on as a mom that works for your day to day. So I present to you my suggestion for a mom jean. With a stretchy denim and a really easy fit, they basically go with anything but they truly make the outfit. They’re just unique enough with the denim stripe that it gives even just a simple tee a pop. This pair is the Good American Wide Leg They fit perfectly — I’m in the size 8 and they have lots of stretch as well. They run just a bit more cropped on me, but I don’t mind for the spring. As you can see I styled this pair with two different options — soccer mom chic and a great WFH option. (PS: is anyone still remote working? I know return to office is huge right now so I’d love to know if your work situations are different and if it’s changing the way you dress!) So the first option of the cardigan is actually perfect for spring because it can be layered over the shoulders (so chic) or worn as a sweater, but the hoodie makes it casual which is perfect for games. And then of course the polka dot blouse is adorable and would be perfect for the office with trousers but works well with denim (obvs).

I admit that I’m not a big fan of jeans… But, here, with the denim stripe flirting with the shape of your legs, I’m seduced (let’s say inflamed would be more accurate). Or maybe it’s because it’s worn by a sublime mother as chic and elegant on a football field as in front of her computer screen that it fascinates me.
Jeans are my go-to outfit choice! Stylish, durable, and they go with everything.
