You know, I didn’t think that ‘denim dress’ would ever be on my bingo card again. After 1997, I thought I had hung up my last denim dress after pairing it with an orange tee for the first day of 7th grade. I thought I was done with denim dressing outside of shorts or jeans. But if there is anything these past 3 years has taught me is that no trend is safe. At this point I am anticipating colored skinny jeans coming back in the next 5-10. If the young ones are now layering tank tops like it’s a good idea, then I have full faith in owl necklaces, colored skinny jeans, and top knots coming back brand new.
Which leads me to this denim dress — I swear it is identical to the ’97 version I wore. And yet it feels new; the silhouette is a semi-hourglass, coming in at the waist ever so slightly. The length is right — I feel like I can wear it out without fearing sitting in chairs or bending over. And the denim has a hint of stretch, so it moves with me. I know I am waxing poetically about this dress, but it really is a gem. It’s at Madewell right now, too!
I am in the 10, it runs slightly generously. If you are in between sizes, go down a size. Find it here.
