8 Nordstrom Finds for Summer

I’ve searched high and low on Nordstrom and I’ve found 8 of my favorite pieces from summer, including a very comfortable swimsuit for all body types! Let’s get to it!

Summer Events Maxi Dress

If you want one dress for every occasion or even this summer, it’s this one. This works for outdoor weddings, vacation, brunch, parties, etc. You name it, this gorgeous dress works. It’s a cotton tiered dress with ruching and smocking at the top which creates a really nice, almost hourglass silhouette. Then the skirt is also tiered. It is lined with a cotton lining as well. The straps are an organza ribbon and the held up once tied. It took me a few times but I got the right length and left them alone. You do have to get the right tie for your body, but once I got it, they didn’t sleep off my shoulders.

Sizing

I typically get a large in En Saison and this runs true for this dress. I would say it runs slightly generous overall, so if you are in between sizes go down one size.

Elevated Knit Dress

I was not expecting this dress to a) fit and b) fit so damn well. Rails is a bit all over the place for me with sizing, so I got the large and it fits well, if not a little generously. This is a nice, soft knit but it has plenty of structure and is not thin. Lightweight like a tee, but not sheer. The wrap in the front is of course a faux wrap, as the skirt underneath covers fully. This to me is one of those ‘mom’ dresses — one I can just toss on and feel pulled together without thinking about it. Wear with sneakers, sandals, wedges, etc, it’s an easy to style piece.

Sizing

I am in the large, runs ever so slightly generous. A large will fit an 8-10 well.

Vacation Maxi

This maxi has the most gorgeous print and the colors — while they are not popping here I’ll admit — are so pretty and bold. And they’re summer colors I don’t feel like we see a lot, deeper blues and purples. Just gorgeous, especially if you were headed to the beach, just to play off those hues. This dress is loose as a goose and is lined as well so there is a lot of fabric to deal with. The tie is long, so you can double die it at the waist a well.

Sizing

This dress runs BIG! I am in the large and could use the medium. I would say overall it runs a size large.

Alternative Denim Shorts

Say hi to little Lolo prancing through in the background with her new summer cut. The amount of times I have to shoo the dogs out of my selfies is embarrassing to be honest. I should probably just let them stay in frame.

Okay so if you want to wear denim shorts but like…not denim shorts this pair is a great alternative for you! (So are the Rag & Bone printed denim shorts but I feel like I’ll never talk you into those…) This pair has an elastic waist band in the back, that’s very generous, but the front is a nice wide band with front pleats. Side pockets to keep that denim feel and the length is just right. Not too long that you feel like you’re a 90s dad on vacation, and not too short that you feel like someone is only going to card you because they know you need the validation. The fabric is a thicker chambray but it has enough structure to keep their shorts shape.

Sizing

I don’t ever trust anything with a front pleat so I tend to size up. I am in the large and they fit me perfectly. I would say a bit small for Madewell’s typical sizing but overall TTS.

Linen Kick Crops

This pair of pants right here is a great dupe for the Collette Pant from Anthro and about $50 less. They fit identically. This pair is a linen option and I really like this for summer, especially if you are in the office. They’re lightweight but have structure, so they don’t just look like vacation pants. The big pockets in the front give some interest as does the little flare kick. A really nice alternative to a looser linen pant this summer!

Sizing

I find Kut from the Kloth to always run small in the waist (specifically that pesky lower waist that we will not name) and so I tend to size up with them. I am in the 10 and they are pretty fitted at the waist, but perfect fit everywhere else.

The Fancy Cover-Up

This might be my most impractical piece but I love her. This is a swim cover up from Farm Rio and it is luxe. Like too luxe for me to wad up in my canvas tote that I carry to my neighborhood pool but I’m keeping it. I love a good cover up and this one is too cute to pass on. I wish it were a tad longer so I could even get away with it as a dress, but alas. It is not.

Sizing

I am in the large and besides the length it fits perfectly for an 8/10!

A Comfortable Swimsuit

At this point, all I want from a swimsuit is full booty coverage, sun protection, tummy control, a place for the sisters where they can be supported but not exposed, and the confidence boost I’ve been needing for the last 20 years. Is that so much to ask??

Probably so I settle for booty coverage and comfort. This swimsuit offers both! And the top is so tight that the sisters ARE supported but risk a bit of exposure if I go too hard in a wave pool. That is on me, of course. But worth mentioning. I also like that the back covers all of my back (it’s racerback) because lord know I don’t need another mole. Also I wouldn’t say it has tummy control, but I did feel very covered and secure in this one.

Sizing

I am in the 10 and I agree with this size. TTS for sure. The bust is a bit tight but works well when I adjust the buttons. Nordstrom doesn’t carry tall sizes, but I think their website (Andie) does. I would prefer a tall size for more torso room but I’m kind of in between tall / regular sizing so this one is fine.
