Do you remember last year — I think it was last year? Anyways in the last 12-14 months do you remember when the puff sleeve trend came around and we were all like ‘is this a trend for now or forever?’ Ya’ll — I thought it was a For Now trend but it might be a Forever. Or at least a Forever For Now trend. Are you confused yet? Perfect, I’ve got you right where I want you.
In other words, I do think the puff sleeve is here for a while. I like to see how long trends stick around before I make a big commitment to them and this one has come back strong this spring. Like maybe too strong in some instances. This shirt is a great example — it’s just almost too much. But with the slimmer silhouette of the torso and the shorter length, this top ends up being the perfect ratio of puff to shirt. The puff gets to be the star of the show with this top. Please know that it doesn’t escape me that my job as an adult is to write things like ‘ratio of puff to shirt.’
I was skeptical of this top online but once I put it on — I loved it. I get nervous with smocking in the middle but this one is nice — it keeps it’s structure and doesn’t sink into my tummy rolls. I mean obviously yes when I sit but otherwise it keeps it’s shape. Now the sleeves are puffy / big and the way they are puffy is by tulle in the sleeves. If you hate tulle and you find it itchy, this top may not be for you. For me, it didn’t bother me — in fact I didn’t know it was an issue until I read the reviews. But it seems for some it’s a big deal, so I wanted you to know!
I am in the medium which surprised the hell out of me. I bought the large and the medium but medium fit best, even though it is fitted. I give it the TTS stamp of approval! Find it from Nordstrom here in three colors.
PS: These jeans are Madewell and out of all my jeans, these are the ones I get the most questions about! These are the ones that have the crossover waistband, which again seems confusing but it’s really not. There is a button that helps secure the crossover hem in place and otherwise they fit normally like high waist jeans. Highly recommend if you are looking for a trendier pair of jeans this spring. I wear the 29, I sized up in these and like this fit because they aren’t as stretchy as other Madewell jeans.
