Best of #NSale: Activewear Favorites

If you have been waiting for a Nordstrom Anniversary Sale post, I’ve got two coming at you! This one today is for the absolute insane good deals on Activewear and tomorrow will be my try-on from what I found in store! I went on Tuesday to shop the sale and it was pretty dead in store, stock was a bit different because of the Covid-19 precautions. I would say if you can shop the sale online, that might be your best bet! All that to say, I was so pleased with the selection this year. It feels a bit different than the last few years and they have absolutely stacked activewear which is what I was on the hunt for anyways! Did I go overboard? Yes. Am I about to show you just how overboard I went? You know I am.

So I haven’t really talked about it yet on here, but I’ve been trying to workout more this year. Like actually working out — cardio 3x a week and strength training at least 2-3x. With this new habit, I’ve realized something — none of my workout clothes match. I tend to buy activewear in piecemeal quantities — a top I like here, some shorts there. So I like the pieces I have but none of them really match or go together. So this year I was hoping for some workout sets (as you’ll see below) and some bridge pieces that I can wear with the items I already have, like easy tanks, sports bras and tops. This sale did not disappoint! I will say this is the biggest category I bought in just because I want to up my gym game and I also wear activewear around the house. It’s a win-win situation really.

I rounded up some of my favorites from the sale — I mean this sale is so good! If you are wanting some new activewear, I would say act as quickly as you can because Zella tends to sell out pretty quickly, especially their sports bras I’ve noticed. Same with sneakers — the Air max 270s I assume will go fast and so will these Adidas Swift Runs. (I had to order online because they were already gone in store by 11 am!)

A Few Activewear Favorites

We went ahead and photographed some of the pieces I picked up from the sale, so I’m sharing my thoughts and sizing below! I’ll do a full try on tomorrow, but if you are as into activewear lately as I am, I wanted you to be well and prepped for when the sale opens up for more cardholders tomorrow!

The Printed Set

Zella Printed Leggings / Zella Sports Bra / Nike Sneakers

I snatched this set up very quickly. I can’t tell if this is one of those that won’t sell quickly because it’s so wild or will sell quickly *because* it’s so wild. Either way, I don’t care — it’s a MOOD and I am living for it. The fit is spot on — I am in the size medium of the leggings (TTS) and a large of the sports bra. I’m in between a large and medium in the sports bra, so I would actually say it fits pretty TTS.

If you haven’t worn Zella before, the quality is on par with more expensive brands. They are thicker fabric, they have wonderful compression, breathable and they wash out and last forever.  These are more of a ‘slick’ legging instead of a traditional matte knit. It works with the pattern and the leggings really hold you in. I thought the wild pattern would be unflattering but the contrary, actually.

The sports bra doesn’t have sport for a long run, but it’s great for low-impact work out.

Workout Tanks + Nike Sneakers

Zella Workout Tank / Nike Airmax 270 / Nike Pegasus Zoom Sneakers

I loved the feel of the fabric, it’s such a nice weight I wish you could feel it. The cut of the shoulders is so flattering and it’s sports bra friendly (it doesn’t dip so low you can see arm pits). I am in the medium of the tank! I bought it in this coral color and the white. I thought they were great staples to have and the fabric is a nice, thicker cotton that falls beautifully. They aren’t sheer one bit and they hit right at the waist band of my high waist leggings. A lovely workout tank that will last! Find it here.

I was SO excited to scoop up these Airmax 270s. I’ve been wanting a pair for a while but didn’t want to pay full price and size 10s are actually hard to come by. I did get a size 10 but I would say you could size down a half size. Find them here.

This pair of Nikes are just a really nice training shoe and I love grabbing a new ‘gym’ shoe each year at the sale. In fact this is usually when I buy sneakers each year. I don’t know if that’s from my childhood but there is something about the beginning school that makes me think I need new sneakers. The basketball team is really counting on me this year.

Quarantine Dream Set

Zella Restore Soft Pocket Leggings / Zella Restore Soft Longline Bra

If you are looking for the greatest quarantine legging or set ever, this is it. It’s the softest, weirdest fabric ever.

In fact, I don’t know if there are words in the English language that can describe this set but that’s never stopped me. This set is a hybrid between pajamas and activewear. It’s soft but structured like activewear, like it’s still very gym / workout friendly. The sports bra doesn’t have the most support ever, it’s more like a bralette but for lounging around the house or low impact exercise it’s fine! The sports bra runs a bit generous as well but the medium fits great. I would say it’s true to size, just not super tight fitting. Find it here.

The pants fit true to size, a bit generous even. I am in the medium and the high waist is perfect with the wide band; holds everything in like it’s doing you a favor. They are smoothing too, the fabric is thick enough to keep structure / squat proof. Find them here!

This also comes in a light grey set as well! The dark set was the only one available in store but I’ve got my eye on the grey set.

Tie Dye Leggings + THE Tank

I really wasn’t going to buy printed leggings this year. So far I’ve kept this promise to myself… until this week. But you know what? 2020 in general didn’t keep her promises either, so I broke mine and bought this pair and the wild splatter paint set above. I have no regrets. This pair is soft like the live in leggings if you are familiar with Zella and I love the print. It’s oddly enough not unflattering (I find patterns to be tough to wear in leggings on me) and they are high waisted with a nice side of compression to hold everything in place. I am in the medium and they are true to size for a size 8! You can find them here.

Oh and this is the white tank I have in the pink above. It’s such a great top — one of those ‘bridge’ tops I was telling you about, as I can wear this with other leggings I have, etc. You can find it here. True to size — I’m in the medium.

Airbrush Leggings

Alo Airbrush Leggings / Zella Body Fusion Sports Bra / Zella Performance Wear Tee

I would buy a hundred of these leggings if I could. Have you ever worn Alo brand before? They are the best, I’m telling you. They are just expensive full price so I always try to wait for a sale or hunt them down on Hautelook, etc. These are the airbrush ones and seriously my favorite fit. They are so flattering and make my legs look 100 miles long. I am in the medium — the fit is perfect! Find them here.

Did you know I have a sports bras that I’ve had for 10 years? They don’t sports or bra any more and this year I wanted to invest in a couple new sports bras that would actually hold. Since I’m not a runner and make no plans to change that in the near future, I go for low to medium impact sports bras. This one from Zella is PERFECT for big boobs. It held me in, gave support but didn’t suffocate in any way. I kind of forgot I was wearing it while working out. I am in the large because I always size up on sports bras and I’m glad I did. I would say go with their size guide, but for a 36D, the large was a nice fit. Find this bra here.

So this crewneck tee is another one of those ‘bridge’ pieces that I can wear with other things in my activewear collection. It is so soft, like baby fabric soft. I am here for this new wave of soft fabrics for workout gear. I feel like activewear companies are on to us — they are like ‘we know you put these things on to just watch TV, Kendi and we are okay with it.’ All that to say — I’m in the medium and it’s true to size! Fitted but not suffocatingly tight. Cling factor a bit around the tummy but not bad at all. Find this top here.

Oversized Tee + Running Shorts

I am a big fan of these Nike running shorts even though I don’t run. Well, I run errands and I will allow it. I am in the large of the shorts — I size up for two reasons: I have a rounder waist / hip situation and the lining is always tight in Nike shorts and 2) I like a bit more length in the shorts. But other wise I wouldn’t suggest sizing up. I would say true to size, I’m just the way that I am. Find them here!

This top is basically to satisfy my need to match at all times. I also thought it would be nice with a pair of biker shorts — I love the oversized tee look with biker shorts. (Some are on sale here!) I am in the medium and it fits very oversized. I would say size down if you don’t want it to fit super oversized. Find it here.
