Just like in the summer, I always want one casual go-to dress that I can throw on for easy days, or to run errands or just for the weekends. This is almost always a knit dress in the summer and now I’ve found one perfect for fall and our winter. When I’m looking for that easy casual, I always want an everyday type of dress that is basic to begin with so that I can dress it up or down with accessories and layers. For now I’ll stick to bare legs and booties, but later in the season tall boots or tights will layer perfectly under this dress.
Speaking of booties, I’m kicking myself right now for not bringing this pair along. I’m finally embracing the chelsea boot this year, after only 4 years of it being so popular. I know I’m last to the party, but I think it’s only because this pair has a bit of a heel and the fact that just this year am I making strides in my friendship with flats. But it’s official — I’m a chelsea bootie fan. I am finding that these go with so many outfits from dresses to jeans and they are the perfect height for walking. So for future reference: when in Europe, pack chelsea boots. Lesson learned.
We are in Lucerne this week, currently hiding out in a cafe, dodging the afternoon rain. But I don’t mind one bit — it’s nothing my rain boots can’t handle. Plus afternoon coffee on a rainy day is my kind of afternoon. I may be hours ahead of you in the day, but look — we are sharing our coffee together. 🙂
(PS: For size reference, I’m in the medium of this dress and it fits true to size. I find Madewell always runs just a tad bit generous but in this case I like the extra room.)

Argh! I have a pair of booties just like your boots here (except they have more of a wedge heel and are taupe/natural color) and I just cannot wear them with a dress/skirt with bare legs like you are here. I always feel so self-conscious that the booties are lopping my legs off (I’m short 5’4″) – but maybe I need to just go with it? Every time I put my booties with a skirt on, I just feel stunted. 🙁 I think an open-toe bootie (like your bordeaux ones) might help elongate my legs with my toes/skin showing? I may have to try some…
I love Madewell! You’re looking adorable as always!
