I feel like I’ve come full circle with colored denim. For a few years I gathered up every color I could, happily filling the pages of my blog with my rainbow legs. But now I’m more drawn to neutral or  pastel shades of colored denim, if I even depart from true blue denim at all. Light pink or white are probably as colored denim as I’ll go. (Does white denim even count? Jury’s out on that one.) But this pair caught me off guard. Is that ikat printed denim I see? Why yes it is. It’s a nice mix of neutral colors but… still kind of crazy. Lucky for this pair of jeans, I’m 100% into kind of crazy.
I thought it best to ease into styling this pair of jeans with a nice and easy sweater. I found this one from Eileen Fisher and loved how lightweight and easy the fit is. It’s the best kind of drapey, where it doesn’t look oversized and just falls right. It’s where effort and effortless meet. Where it looks like you’ve tried, but not to hard you know? You care, but you don’t, but you do. In other words, this sweater woke up like this.

  1. $158 sweater? $189 jeans? Ouch. I would love to see more affordable pieces in your posts! I see the post was sponsored and I only wish I had $189 for patterned jeans. 🙂

    1. I’ll keep my eyes peeled for an under $100 version of these jeans! I couldn’t find any this morning but I’m always looking online 🙂 I’ll keep you posted!

      1. Thanks Kendi! Although the pieces have grown more pricey over the years, I still turn to this blog for inspiration!

  3. I want to try patterned pants but I feel the conservative gal in me just says No, you stick to you basic indigo denim and don’t try and branch out 🙁

  4. those printed jeans are lovely on you Kendi, and really nice with the white top! 🙂

I’ve definitely expanded my denim collection over the years – prints and colour I have a little bit of everything! Something like this is a nice venture into prints for someone who doesn’t have any other statement denim 🙂

  9. I loved this look so for once I followed the links to see what it would cost me. As a long time reader, I’ve been becoming more and more disenchanted and after adding up the total cost of this outfit (over $1200!), I’m afraid you’ve lost a regular reader. You simply don’t connect with this “everyday” kinda gal.

    1. I’ve been feeling the same way lately. I can’t relate to her anymore, with her pricey shoes and expensive jeans (not that I don’t like them) because I just can’t afford them.

    2. I agree that the items are out of a typical reader’s price range, but I still love her for inspiration. Plus, Kendi hasn’t stopped writing funny, personal posts. I love this blog because she hasn’t sold out her personality like so many other bloggers out there. I feel like if we, the regular reader, like the look, we can probably find it for less at places like tjmaxx or marshalls. 🙂

    3. Me too. :'( And while she will do just fine without my “support” (I have followed the links, and made many purchases over the years from her inspiration) I’m really disappointed that I can’t connect anymore. Hers is the only style blog I’ve ever followed since I found it within about six months from when she started it. As a busy mama I just don’t have the time to spend time looking for copycat looks that are in the price ranges of what I’m willing to spend. I know it’s impossible to please everyone – and with her great sense of style there will most likely be a new group of readers she will attract that will appreciate these new price points. Wishing you the best, Kendi – you are obviously very good at what you do to be able to reach these kinds of style goals!

  14. Those are some fun jeans, but the overall look is amazing (and effortless!)

Congrats on this sponsored post Kendi! Seeing your blog grow has been great and it is an inspiration to see that an “everyday” girl can be successful and still be true to herself. You work hard like the everyday girl, so you deserve all the success that comes your way!

  15. I have been following your blog and instagram for awhile now, and I just need to know your hair routine! I love your cut and how you style it with loose waves. What hair products do you use and what type of curling iron or straightener do you use to get your curls like that?

    1. Of course! I need to do a tutorial ASAP. I’ve been saying that for years now 🙂

So I use a 1″ curling iron and I curl the waves away from my face in thick sections, like 1″ sections all over my head. Then I let them set (don’t touch them) and once they cool, I slightly brush them out and then put a water based pomade throughout my hair. (I use Fructis pomade, it’s cheap and the best!) It breaks up the curls and keeps them wavy throughout the day. Then I just hairspray and go!
