You see that small half inch of snow / sleet or what we like to call here in Texas a ‘wintery mix’ behind me? Well that little bit of weather has closed all the schools, some roadways and more importantly all of my local coffee shops that I hit up like a bad habit on a daily basis. Snowpocalpyse? Perhaps not. But when you force my coffee shops to close, that’s some type of natural disaster in my book.
We of course are not prepared for this kind of weather down here and you can’t blame us. We are used to warm weather all the time which is why I had to reverse my brain back to layers again today. I’d planned to wear this top and sweater combo with a skirt and dare I say — bare legs — this week but I think my back up plan of red pants worked out in my favor. You know I love a pop of red and I never mind a back up plan. (I mean 90% of my plans are back up plans, let’s be honest.)

  1. Ahh! Coffee shop closing? That’s intense. Typically on a Northeast snow day I can at least count on my coffee house opening. Yikes! Sorry! That’s a bummer. but at least you look super cute.

  2. Frankly, I’m just impressed by the heels! I grew up in a land where it snowed every winter and I STILL can’t go out in snow without socks and sturdy tennis shoes/boots!

I love Loft’s red for spring. It is just the best version of red.

  3. A.) You look completely adorable, I love this top & the pop of red! And B.) as a Canadian, all I have to say is: HAHAHAHA! That is what April/May looks like here. 😉 Though we are equipped with snow tires, plows and salt trucks, I suppose. But seriously, the banks at the end of my driveway are higher than my head, and the only time my work has been closed was when we got 45cm in one day. Lots of love, your slightly bitter Canadian friend. 😉

  4. Wish we got that snow here in San Antonio! No matter how long I live here I still think it’s insane how little snow does the city in! But I kind of love it. No snow shoveling AND I get snow days? Yes please.

  5. I’m in Dallas and I’m not complaining about ICEpocalypse! LOL my office closed so.. that’s always a good thing 🙂 I love the outfit! I missed Texas and how everything closes for a little ice haha

  6. A total fave! Those pants are beautiful and they fit you so well. It’s a bit brisk up here in North Carolina, too. Bundle up, y’all! 😉

  7. It is so crazy that there is snow there!! If it snowed where I live (OC in California) I know everything would be shut down also! haha But your coffee shops being shut down is no laughing matter, that sounds so terrible! Love your outfit though, and love that it has color; it’s the best way to brighten up a dull day!

  8. You are a brave woman to wear those heels on that ice! I’m over here in Fort Worth hiding out in leggings and Tuggs (Target Uggs) with the toddler still in her footie pajamas from last night. (But your outfit is super cute!)

  9. Hey a back-up plan shows adaptability and being adaptable is a wonderful skill! I love when things just work out. We’re in California and anytime it gets cold, I have to struggle to find an outfit I’ll stay warm in for the full day. Good luck with your “wintery mix”.

  16. That sweatshirt was not at all flattering on me like it is on you, but I did get the matching skirt! I just love the windowpane print. I’m also going to refrain from teasing you about what you had to wear for “bad” weather. Forget I even brought it up.

    1. You know I wanted the skirt but I don’t know…I couldn’t justify it, for some reason? I don’t know… that sounds weird because I loved it and together with this top it would be adorable but I just wasn’t feeling it. Oh I kind of feel the same about the sweatshirt as you do, it’s boxy so it’s not super flattering in person but I liked it anyways. non-flattering pieces have never stopped me before 🙂

  21. I love how Texas shuts EVERYTHING down when a single snowflake hits the ground. On another note, I love this look for the office. It stays in line with the corporate dress code, yet is still fun with the pop of red, layering and the grid pattern. Thanks for the inspiration!

    1. YES girl YES. We shut it down. I mean to be fair it was all ice and the roads were just one solid popsicle but yes, everything was down. We just don’t know how to deal in the south. 😉

Thanks for the kind words on the outfit! 🙂

  22. I have been following your blog for a while now, but just had a revelation…you look like Michelle Dockery from Downton Abbey! you both are poised, graceful, and lovely. Love the blog; keep up the good work 🙂

  23. LOVE how you styled this sweater. Your pants make the whole look pop!

  27. First of all, you look stunning girl! Your style is becoming more polished and corporate-friendly than shop-girl I think…

Also, I love that you are bringing designer pieces into your wardrobe and have such understated elegance to your looks! So grown-up Kendi

    HAPPY MEDLEY
