I am so honored to be one of the 10 women to be a part of Redbook Magazine’s Real Women of Style Awards this year! I happily share this honor with nine other beautiful women who you need to be reading ASAP: Kimberly, Caroline, Karla, Brittany, Catie, Maria, Georgette, Marisa and Vicky
I received an email telling me about the honor and within a week I was up in New York shooting for the magazine and making 9 new lady friends. It was an amazing opportunity to not only shot with Redbook but to meet other very inspiring women.  If you get a chance, check out the entire issue which is on newsstands now! (PS: Kate Middleton is on the cover, so we are basically one degree apart. I am so close to royalty. )

Thank you again to Redbook and JC Penney for the amazing opportunity and honor to stand next to nine amazing women who all effortlessly encompass what style is really about.

  3. I got mine in the mail yesterday and was stoked to see you! Congrats. ….now, can we talk about that stunning leather skirt? Super cool, Kendi.

  4. Was hoping my issue would be in my mailbox today, but no luck. Maybe tomorrow! Congrats!

  5. To be honest, I lack a lot of respect for you because all your honor is based on superficial stuff that only is about you!! Sure, anyone can spend money on themselves like you, get in debt, and have addictions to shopping. If you were in a magazine for donating money and time to duke children's hospital, an animal shelter or anything to make our world better, I would say CONGRATULATIONS KENDI!! But the truth be told kendi, Satan has gotten hold of you and your shopping fans who follow you. Your followers are people just like you. You are as worldly as they come and no new purse or fashion item will ever make you or your followers happy. Learn to reach out of yourself and help others instead of focusing on YOURSELF all the time.

  7. Hooray! It was so awesome to meet you, Kendi, and I hope that we'll get to hang out again someday. I'm still dying to make a visit to Texas! 🙂

  8. Also, I beg to differ. A new purse makes me extremely happy. Especially when I get to step over sick children and animals in order to do so. Oh, happy days!!!

  9. I agree with Amy. She does have a valid point. Lets make this world a better place and think of others more.

  10. Fashion is fun and so is doing a blog but there has to be some healthy balance. Kendi has mentioned on this blog that she suffers from depression and maybe fashion and blogging is her way to cope with life's trials. I am sure the positive comments she gets from her followers is a great comfort too. But some addictions are not healthy. I think if kendi made her blog into more then enticing people to spend money, and focused on a healthier balance such as recipes, crafts, service ideas, and other activities, she could help others be healthier too. And yes, reaching out to others and offering service does make the world a better place as well as build great character.

  11. That's amazing congrats. You look beautiful as usual and so do the rest of the girls.

  12. Thanks, Angie. I will definitely need your prayers when I'm resisting the temptation to buy purses made from the skin of sick children and animals. I hear Jennifer Aniston has one. I kinda want one, too.

  13. How exciting, Congrats Kendi! I have to say that yours is the only fashion blog I follow. I love your style and I love reading what you have to say. I think most of your readers come here for more inspiration than just fashion, and that deserves an award for sure!

  14. Congrats! I'm so excited for you! You're so genuine and deserve this! You're just the cutest 🙂

  15. It was so awesome to see you when I opened up my copy last week! It was like seeing a good friend! 🙂

  16. Chiming in here: Amy — I'm sorry you feel that way! You are of course entitled to your opinion and probably nothing I will say from here on will change your perspective but I'd like to leave my two cents on my life and how I handle the subject of style. I have from the get go of Kendi Everyday solely written about style, my own personal style or that of others which includes shopping, trends, and other, perhaps in a greater view of the world, superficial things. Now as I started this blog a few years ago I struggled with the idea that style is superficial that maybe I should be writing about something…more weighted… I guess for lack of better words in this moment. But you know what? As I found myself writing more about my own journey of personal style and finding myself learning more and more about the industry I find it to be less superficial in meaning to me, but an act of creativity or even an art. Personal style to me is an important part of what I do and in fact has helped me create the career that I have always wanted (I'm in the middle of opening my boutique again, where I sell clothing but also help others find their personal style.) I have worked with so many women who come in to the shop with zero self confidence and have helped them find pieces and watch with amazement as they start their journey of personal style and find self confidence to be able to grow in their life. I don't find style superfluous at all, in fact I find it inspiring and an important aspect of my life.

I also know that since all I do blog about is style and a perhaps a small portion of my personal life that I am open to comments such as this one. I don't disagree that I could probably spend more time volunteering, as I think we all could and that's probably a great reminder. But since i don't share even a fraction of my personal life on here, I am not sure where the attack comes from. I do love style and clothing and the world / industry of fashion, but that is a fraction of my life. A fraction that I am very proud of, and I'm especially proud to be honored as a real women of style by a magazine I've grown up reading. I am proud of who I am and the journey that I've been allowed to take and I am happy to share that with readers who have stuck with me through a lot of changes over the years.

I appreciate the reminder that there are many, many people in our world who need love and help. I try to remember that in my actions I put forth everyday in how I treat / talk to others or in what charities I give to. But please respect me enough to know that what I share on the internet and what I do in my everyday life are limited by the words I choose to share them with and that there is a lot more to my life than what I leave here.

  17. I know Kendi personally, in fact she is one of my best friends, and I honestly wish you had the chance to know her like I do. If you did, you would know that Kendi gives so much on a daily basis and never asks for anything in return. When complete strangers would come into bloom, Kendi would happily spend hours chatting with them and helping them have courage to reach for any dream. Why would a complete stranger open up to her within an hour about their dreams you may ask, because she changes lives everyday through her blog. Yes it is about fashion, but her content is much more than just fashion. I never knew Kendi through her blog, I've known her through our friendship first and I promise you, the only thing she does is give. I'm glad you felt comfortable enough to speak up, as you should, but as someone who knows her personally to someone who doesn't, Kendi is an amazing person and she 100% deserves a congratulations. I like to believe that the fastest way to get your point across is through kindness, so maybe we all can learn something here.

  18. Kendi, I read your blog regularly even though I'm always a few weeks behind, (I need more hours in the day lol) but I did want to say congratulations as I hardly comment on your posts. From the little that you do share on your blog I can tell that you are a kind and fun woman. I also want to say that you are probably one of the most elegant women/bloggers I have ever read as you handled the criticism from the commenter down below quite eloquently. I think you deserve the honor that you received and I look forward to reading more as your journey in the blogging world continues.
