My hair has been doing this Stepford wives thing lately and I can’t stop it or re-direct in the messy way that I’d prefer it to go. I curl it like always, try to make it edgy and it just turns perfectly under into this big curl and then tells me to go pick up the house because it’s filthy. I’ve just decided to give up on anything other than this very polished look, since there is no fighting it. Turns out that I tend to dress a bit more feminine with my hair curled like this. But I mean if my hair is calling the shots and it’s pretty skirts and heels then who am I to argue with that?
So I’m not much of an online shopper. Probably because I’m an instant gratification kind of a girl and I like the experience of shopping; touching the fabric, trying it on, getting the right size, etc. But I’ve heard people rave about ASOS and I thought you know what? Let’s try it.  Here is what I learned: size up one size or  if that scares you, order two sizes and send back the one that doesn’t fit. They have free returns and it’s very easy to send it back. Second thing I learned? Use the express 2 day shipping if you want your order fast and if you order over $140 then use the free express code: EXPRESSUSA. I did not do this and it took almost two weeks to arrive. (I always go for cheaper shipping and I didn’t know about the code until it was too late.) I was like a kid waiting on Christmas, every day checking the mail to see if my package had been delivered. Well, yesterday Christmas came early and almost everything fit with the one size up rule.  Anyways, just some thoughts on ASOS if you’ve ever wanted to shop but didn’t know about their sizing or shipping.
Just making the world an easier place to shop since 1984.

  1. Ha…I feel like my hair is never edgy either. I check ASOS new arrivals every day. One of my fave places to shop but yeah…the shipping takes forevah! Topshop is even worse. I shop almost exclusively online but now I pretty much know the sizing at all of my fave stores so I’ve been lucky! =) LOVE your outfit, btw!

  2. Have you tried sea salt spray? It really helps with my curls looking less perfect and more intentionally disheveled. My favorite is the one by Davines; the bottle lasts forever and it smells great too.

  3. I agree about the ASOS stuff – both sizing and shipping. I ordered a maternity dress and the sizing issue was a blow to my already fragile ego about my expansion issues. (yes, i know expansion is good when you’re pregnant, but I don’t like it so much).

    1. ha! I have many expecting friends who have said the same thing. They all say it’s worth it but it’s not fun while you are watching your body expand 🙂 I’m glad to know you experienced the same with sizing. I try to just remember fit over number, fit over number when it comes to sizing anymore. Nothing seems to be standard!

      1. The reason you need to size up is because British sizes are different to American. It’s always nice for us Brits to be in ‘smaller’ sizes when buying American clothing but it is only a number in the end! Love the blog and often wish shipping from America to UK had free shipping&returns as you always have such great outfits.

  4. Love the pairing of stripes and florals! That skirt is fabulous!
I just listened to your podcast with Jess Lively yesterday and loved it! It was so interesting and helpful to hear about your business story, I loved your honest approach. So interesting to learn more about the behind the scenes which most people dont often share!

  5. This look is stunning, your skirt is amazing and I love your pairing with the stripe top, I’m really looking forward to trying this combination. I never shop online, not only do I love the experience of going to malls but also I am reluctant to try online shopping due to size and shipping issues.

  6. The floral print on the skirt is gorgeous – I guess the wait was worth it. I like online shopping, but I don’t do it as often as offline (?) shopping. x

  7. SO very true about ASOS – I still have a pencil-midi-skirt in scuba that I committed to too soon and tore off the tags, when it did me no favors. Loving the floral and stripes combo right now!

    1. Been there girl. Have you ever accidentally ripped the tags off while trying it on? That’s really not fun when it turns out that it doesn’t fit.

  11. I’m also a big fan of the instant gratification….but it’s also so much fun getting a package of goodies in the mail. This is why I like to mix both types of shopping 🙂

  14. I’d like to think that I’m responsible for what will undoubtedly become an online shopping obsession (sorry, not sorry). Also, how AMAZE do you look in a crop top?!

  17. Super cute!! The also have a sale a few times a year where you can get ASOS Premier for $19 and get free 2 day shipping for a year. It was the best $19 I have ever spent.

  21. Yes! This outfit is such perfection. Some serious outfit inspo today.

  22. I just got the same skirt in black, but now I want that one too! So cute!

  23. I’ve been eyeing that skirt for a while now, you look so cute! and yeah, asos definitely has very small sizing in their own brand items.

  24. I ordered from ASOS for the first time a couple of weeks ago. I wish I would’ve read about your size up rule before then! I couldn’t even get the top over my head! haha

  25. Asos is the best! And I love that most of their items have a runway video to go along, so you can actually get a better idea of what the item looks like when worn.

P.S. – I just recently started following your blog and absolutely love your style – and that skirt!

  32. I could have told you about the 2-week wait…I guess you had to learn the hard way just like I did! But worth the wait because that skirt is awesome.

  35. I prefer online shopping over in-store shopping for several reasons.

    1. I have two young boys, so dragging them from store to store trying on clothes is a nightmare for both me and them. I remember once I had to get new bras and I had the double stroller. The boys were grabbing at all the bras on the racks. Then there was screaming. I had nine bras in my hand. Decided just to buy them all and decide at home and get the hell outta there pronto.

    2. There is less sales pressure buying online. I like to buy on my terms without a sales associate hovering over me. I feel if I’m taking too long in the dressing room I really need to buy. Just browsing at a store I feel pressure to buy.

    3. Promo codes. Many stores often say “online only.”

    4. At times deciding on what actually fits properly is very difficult for me. Most of the time I can’t really make the correct decision unless I’m at home in front of my mirror. Sometimes I need my husband or a friend to help me with sizing.

    5. I love having the package delivered to my home.

    6. Driving around from mall to mall looking for your size really sucks.

    7. Free shipping seems to be available more often these days.

    8. Online stores tend to be more flexible regarding price adjustments.

    9. It’s not difficult to mail back returns. I try to shop at online stores with free returns.

    10. If I’m not familiar with the sizing of a particular brand, I order two sizes and mail one back. If I’m required to pay to mail back the return and the store is close, I’ll drive it back to the store. Once I figure out a brand’s fit, I can usually determine the size.

    11. Some brick and mortar stores I like are not available in my area. For example, Lord & Taylor is not in Southern CA where I live. I love Lord & Taylor. I can’t drive to Lord & Taylor. I can buy from them online. 🙂

    1. I forgot to include one of the most important things I love about online shopping:
      12. Almost everything is brand new from a warehouse. Never been touched, tried on, brand spankin’ new in the manufacturer’s packaging. Sometimes low-stock items in department stores that you REALLY want and are very hard to find – have makeup stains, deodorant, etc. Online – usually not the case! Yes, I’m an obsessive shopper :/
