Things I’ve learned today and it’s only 10:30 am:
1. I make duck faces when it’s super windy out. 2. Mint colored skirts photograph as white. 3. My hair is cray.
I bet you guys thought I was going to talk about that 50 Shades of Grey book by the title of this post, eh? But I haven’t read that book for a few reasons. One being that I forget to read books. I’m pretty sure that my brain is going to turn to mush by age 35. All I’ll be able to recite will be the poetry and prose of gossip websites and fashion magazines. The other day I told my mother that I was going to sign up for a library card and she encouraged me by saying “they have magazines, too.” After searching for a comeback, I looked up from my iPad and over to my stack of magazines and realized I had no defense. Sad story, true story.

  6. OMG. That skirt is MINT?! I thought I had to have it when I thought it was white…now I KNOW I have to have it because it’s mint. Love it! I hate when colors don’t photograph properly. My oranges photograph as red, and my violets photograph as purple. Sigh. Why is life so hard? 🙂 Totally cute look!

  8. I’m a huge magazine reader so I can’t judge. Though I was an avid book reader prior to starting my blog. Now I just don’t have the time 🙁  Love the mint paired with blue! And that clutch is adorable.

  10. Firstly, love your outfit. Secondly, a lot of libraries allow you to take out ebooks now which you can read on the kindle app. It is the best, and saves you trips back and forth to the library. Also, then no one can tell what book you’re reading (cough*fiftyshades*cough).

  11. Even though the skirt looks white, I can picture it with the blue top you have on and it looks great! I love mint skirts!

  12. This outfit is a win-win-win.  I’m trying to pick my favorite piece but I can’t.  I love the skirt, the clutch, the blouse, the shoes, AND the jewelry. (And I promise I don’t say that on everything I comment on!)  Impeccable taste, Kendi!

  14. 50 Shades of Grey will only advance the mushing of your brain. It’s so poorly written, magazines are a much better literary choice in comparison. Even if it’s one of those magazines that is mostly ads!

  15. I thought the skirt was white!! How funny about the library card 🙂

  16. I would be remiss, as a public librarian, not to urge you to go for that library card.  I’ll echo what everyone else said: most libraries lend out EBOOKS! And, yes, magazines and DVDs and music CDs too.

  17. I have been terrible as far as reading goes lately…such a busy summer I’m crashing in front of Netflix or Pinterest for an hour before bed instead 🙁  Gotta get back to it.  Also love this outfit…the blues are perfect together and I love the way it looks like the sea!

  19. I love that shirt. This outfit is so chic and fun!
And, as a librarian, I also want to remind you that you can get eBooks to read on your iPad. The library’s COOL, man!

  20. Well your brain seems fine to me considering your amazing “plume” as we call it in french, your way of writing about everything and always making it funny and clever. And your blouse is amazing. And I had to google “50 shades of grey” because I had no clue what book you were talking about 🙂

  21. Don’t feel bad; I was going to read 50 Shades of Grey until I realized it has a ridiculous and implausible storyline. Just watch the movie when it comes out if you’re really curious about it.

Also, I’m sad that the skirt didn’t actually photograph as mint, since I can now only use my imagination to picture it in that color.

  22. the library card will be so “carrie bradshaw”…i might make a visit today!

  23. Yeah, I definitely would not have known that skirt was mint if you hadn’t said something. In fact, I still don’t think it’s mint. I think you’re crazy. It’s definitely white. Either way it looks nice. Also, I only count 2 shades of blue. Tomorrow I challenge you to actually wear 50 different shades of blue at once.

    Sarah’s Real Life

  24. I hate when things photograph has different colors. boo. I only read books that are fun and easy, does that actually count as reading? I’m not sure.

  25. Gorgeous shirt the colour is stunning I’ve gotten so lazy with reading books recently…not sure I’ll be starting with reading fifty shades of grey though!

  26. Kendi, please put all of your fab looks together on a book/style guide! you would sell millions of copies, i’m sure!  and don’t forget we need your funny writing in it too!!!!

  27. reading that that skirt was mint made me love the outfit that much more! super cute!

  28. Such a great look on you!! I’m an iPad/blog/fashion magazine kind of girl too!

  29. Haha 50 Shades of Grey is more entertaining than it is an actual well written story. Just FYI. You’re not missing a ton by not reading it but if you ARE looking to get back into reading, this is definitely an “easy read”.

P.S. Love the blouse! I have something similar that I have yet to photograph 🙂

  31. i like that suede clutch!  and also the fact that this post was not, in fact, about fifty shades of grey, because i am so over everyone talking about it!

    lovely blues combo 🙂

  32. Beautiful outfit! I love outfits that are different shades of the same color. Very cool! And mint is my current obsession right now!!!

I’ve been a fan of your blog for months. Thanks for all the great outfit inspiration!

  34. Kendi, absolutely LOVING your blog and this post and this outfit! It’s precious.. and I totally feel you on the book reading thing. Trying to be better about it since, you know, I’m no longer in school and don’t feel like I have an excuse to not be reading. Also, glad I’m not the only one whose hair is cray in this crazy weather. Nice to meet ya! – Erin

  35. love the outfit! i had a similar problem when i wore a mint dress to a wedding and everyone said I was tacky for wearing white and spent a lot of time defending myself lol

    xoxo
    Nicole

  36. Wow, Kendi. This is simply gorgeous!!! Your hair might be cray but this outfit is cray chic.

  37. Wow I would have had no idea that your skirt was mint if you hadn’t mentioned it… it looks beautiful either way though! I’m following on instagram as well and am loving hubby’s matching look today 🙂

  38. Love this look! It’s a shame the skirt photographed as white, I bet the outfit was even MORE dynamic in person! PS- Don’t feel ashamed of your preferred reading material,,,embrace it! There are “experts” in all fields, even those deemed less important than others (which they’re not). And the way to become an expert is to be informed. (And libraries have such a wide selection of magazines…thinking about getting a card as well 😉 )

  39. haha! at your post title.. nice shades of blue. I love blue one of my favorite colors

  40. Very tricky, there, Kendi.  I’m glad you didn’t talk about 50 Shades of Grey; I’m so done hearing about the book.  I haven’t read it, either, but not for lack of trying.  There’s like a 60 person waiting list at my library.  So, I’ll get there eventually, but way after everyone has already stopped caring about it.
    Anyway.
You look wonderful.  Always inspirational and so very chic.

  42. DON’T read 50 Shades! Worst ever, the main character annoyed me so much I couldn’t even finish – she’s totally spineless and pathetic. ANYway, lovely outfit though 🙂

    Life Etc

  43. When I’ve seen the first photograph I’ve thought “hey, look that shade of blue, looks great whit that white pencil skirt”. Do you mean mint skirt? Oops!…It looks great anyway!

  44. haha i know exactly what skirt that is because i wondered if i´d get that one or the same in hot pink. i ended up taking the hot pink one… it´s so funny it def looks white on the pictures!
the other funny thing is that i woke up today thinking about the title “50 shades of red” and doing a post of my hair color… it looks so different depending on the light. i LOLed when i read your title. we´re connected girl! 🙂

    have a great thursday!

  45. I just started reading your blog, and I LOVE your style.  I live in the DFW area and was wondering where you go thrifting at?  I’ve been to a couple places, but I’m never really sure where to go.  Could you recommend a few places to check out in the DFW area.  Thanks!

  46. Love the blue outfit! cute cute cute.

  47. HAHA! I HAVE THE 3 BOOKS OF 50 SHADES TRILOGY WAITING FOR ME BUT I STILL HAVEN’T GOTTEN THE TIME TO DO SO, I AM CURIOUS ABOUT ALL THIS HYPE ABOUT THE BOOKS.  ANYWAY, YOUR 50 SHADES IS SUPERB, EVEN IF YOUR BRAIN WOULD TURN MUSH, YOU’D STILL BE ONE STYLISH GAL 😀

  48. I think it’s no problem not to read 50 shades of grey, even if I’m a huge book fan – but I’m rather the kind of nerd who loves french 19th and early 20th century books … Well apart from that, magazines are of course also “reading” 😉
And I love the blue blouse together with the turquoise clutch, I wish I would have a similar clutch! Is there are chance, that you maybe going to make a little “kendi’s closet cleaning sale” someday?

    xxx Anita

  49. As someone who tried to read 50 Shades of Grey and didn’t finish it, I can say that you’re not missing out on much. I am an avid reader, however I prefer more books with a bit more depth and intelligence, but with the fun romance and fantasy. That being said – I love your outfit!

  50. Your pictures are always gorgeous Kendi! Like seriously, it looks like you visit a different country everyday! This could be in Italy! Anyway, looking good! That skirt looks great in white OR mint!

    perfectly priya

  51. I love magazines too and can read In Touch cover to cover in 4 minutes. That’s my claim to fame. No shades of grey for me either! I’d rather eat choclate and go for a drive!

  52. You’re way better off reading magazines, trust me. 50 Shades of Grey is just… laughably bad. I think the articles in most fashion magazines (particularly, say, Harper’s Bazaar) are much better!
And you look great, as usual. 🙂
