I can not tell a lie. Not a whole lot of thought went into this outfit. I didn’t wake up thinking about the next trend to conquer or about sending my photo off to Lucky Magazine (wink*) but it was just what I wanted to wear. Not that it’s not fun to conquer trends and dream of magazine spreads, but some days it’s just nice to be comfortable. It’s comfortable and cute. A win-win offituation. (I mixed outfit and situation and made up a new word.)
You know what I like best about this outfit? Everything I’m wearing is from a different year, except for my top and shoes. How about that? Keeping clothes for more than one year? Genius! Someone give me a book deal!
I put the year labels on my pants and cardigan not to brag at how long I hoard clothing (oh but I am) but to let you know you can’t run out and get them any longer. It’s really embarrassing when I get a call from Jenna Lyons at J.Crew Headquarters, getting on to me over wearing things that are no longer available. So please, don’t request a cardigan from 2009 at J.Crew. I am just so tired of Jenna calling my cell phone. You hear that Jenna Lyons? Stop stalking me.

The pants are a great color! All my of "Dark wash denim has since faded into a royal blue – yuck. I need to find a way to dye my jeans back to a darker color without the color bleeding.
ANYWAYS. Love the outfit!
I love that yellow! It's nice to show people years too as a reminder that you can wear pieces year after year after year. Also, I am stealing offituation. Brilliant!
One of the biggest takeaways from 30×30 is that I NEED more big jewelry in my life. Thanks for proving me right, lady!
beautiful combination!! and i hoard clothes too, some that go back more than 10 years! i actually still do wear them every season. 🙂

i love everything about this outfit! i hoard clothes too. today i am wearing a shirt from at least 2007.
I love love love this necklace. Some of my favorite outfits of yours have this very necklace.
And your normalcy is much appreciated by this follower.

I love mix old thing with new. I do it all the time.

Great outfit! And you are totally having a fantabulous hair day!
I love this outfit, looks so effortless and easy to wear. 🙂

CUTE! <3
I could never pull off these shapes, your length is definitely a major player here.
But I WILL steal this color scheme thankyouverymuch 🙂
This outfit is adorable! I don't think wearing clothes from a year or two ago counts as hoarding. Good clothes should last. I'm more worried about people who treat clothing as disposable.
I'm probably a terrible hoarder, a lot of my clothes are at least 5 years old. I don't comment much, but I LOVE the combination of the mustard cardigan with the turquoise necklace. I'll have to try my own version soon.
I love it hun! This one kind of makes me think of a modern take on Cher from Clueless (one of my all time style inspirations).
BY the way, I think it's great you've still got stuff from a while ago. THat's how you know you're building a good wardrobe, you're still wearing the old stuff!
I have that same anthro necklace and I've had it for a year and never worn it. I just couldn't figure out to wear it without feeling like my outfit was yelling "I'M WEARING A HUGE NECKLACE". I love how you're wearing it here, maybe now I can get that baby into rotation.
I think I neeeed that necklace, it's gorgeous!! Love the outfit.
I like this casual look. I'm wondering if the word shouldn't be outfituation? Either way, very clever.
I wouldn't dare put dates on my clothes. Then everyone would know that the plaid skirt I keep wearing in my 30, that people keep calling trendy, is at least 10 years old. I'd say the average age of my 30 clothes is at least 3. Eek.
The Auspicious Life
im loving this outfit. you're "no thought" outfit is one of my favorites so far from this remix.

This may just be one of my favorite outfits you've posted…because you are wearing basic peices in a way that looks cute and not so basic..I have similar peices in my closet so it's inspiring!
Love the necklace and how it really pops up against the yellow sweater. And I have to agree, sometimes the less thought-out outfits end up being the best ones. – Katy
I would keep doing it so I COULD get stalked by Jenna Lyons. That would be wonderful. Oh so wonderful. Lol You look so chic today Ms. Kendi. Love it!
love love love this outfit! love the whole thing. the sweater length & color w/ the necklace…the fun shoes. ALL OF IT! love!!!!
love love the necklace and shoes!
I’ve coveted that necklace since I first saw it on you. I've stalked Anthro and searched high & low for something similar and cannot find anything to satisfy my desire. So I’ve decided to make one myself. Once I conquer the look, I’ll be sure to share a pic.
The colour of the cardigan is so great! I also love the necklace with it.
Love this one! And do not even start on "how long I hoard clothing" because one of my pieces is from FIFTEEN years ago. From a now defunct company. Yeah. I need to update my wardrobe.
WEIRD J.Crew is hassling you! I am a fan of outfits you don't have to think too much about. I don't have time to pine about what I'm going to wear for the day. Doing so makes me feel insane! Nice look! I wish I could wear yellow 🙂
this necklace just makes everything ok with the world. i just love it! and paired with the yellow is gorgeous!
I happen to think this look is fabulous! You punched up what could have been a normal outfit with fab accessories and it looks great! Those colors are divine on you too.
That necklace is divine. And it goes so perfectly with the whole outfit.
I really, really, REALLY adore the proportions of this outfit. There's just something so RIGHT about it. 🙂
Kendi this is one of my favorite outfits you have ever posted!!! I've never commented before but this was just too good not to! It's so simple but well put together.
I do love that sweater…it's so great when an outfit just works!
This is my favorite outfit I've seen you wear! Really really cute.
Jenn
So cute but simple, Lovely!
Another fab outfit you look great and I love that necklace x

IN LOVE with this outfit!
I like it 🙂 That necklace is really cool 🙂
Sometimes the most simple outfits are the ones that are so beautiful and chic. You look great. Love that necklace!
Love this outfit! Love the contract with the yellow, cream and dark jeans and the big necklace!
i love the splash of yellow the cardigan adds to the outfit. and the necklace is swoon-worthy.
what does U.O. stand for or is that the whole name of the brand?
You are hilarious. Someday Jenna will be calling/emailing you, I'm sure of it.
Looks very cute indeed 🙂
Yay for seasons past!
It's so hard to part with clothes
Just Better Together
The necklace is so pretty! and so is the cardigan, love them both 🙂
I love the yellow/teal color combo! So fresh and happy 🙂
Lan! U.O. is for Urban Outfitters. What do you mean you can't read my mind abbreviations!?
The brand is Jeffrey Campbell, but I bought them via Urban Outfitters or U.O. in my brain's way of doing things.
Thanks for pointing that out, I'm going to fix that!
this look is pretty awesome you make it look so chic and effortless !!!
Eeep! I adore this. The mix of colors and lengths is perfection. I do really love some of the old Gap and J.Crew clothing. I wish they'd bring it back! Keep wearing it, I say. Maybe they'll get the idea.
That necklace is awesome! Very pretty against the yellow cardigan.

I love this outfit!! I'm really wanting a sweater/cardigan in that color!!
Woman, you have redefined my relationship with my wardrobe! I'm doing the remix and every tired evening I think, there's no way I can put one more outfit together, and every morning I DO! Woot!
Love that cardi & necklace:)
f
I love that necklace!
The Jenna Lyons bit was just hilarious! I too dream of being stalked by her.
P.S.: Breathtaking necklace! Exclamations all around!
Super cute! I HAVE to get some more yellow in my wardrobe, I'm loving it in your remix.
I may or may not have scoured Ebay to find a couple of the Anthro necklaces listed…
Here is the exact same one, at the bargain basement price of $300! Eek! Check back again after this auction ends because I suspect the seller will lower the price after he can't find a buyer…
And how wonderful! The same necklace (except in cream) for very near its original Anthro price! And no bidding necessary on the "buy it now" items! Happy Friday!
I need a mustard cardi.
<3
Oh, man, I luuuuuuuurve that necklace! So great to see it on a real person instead of some silly over-styled catalog model (who am I kidding? I want my life to be an anthro catalog.). Somehow, despite your claims of not putting much thought into this outfit, that necklace miraculously pulls everything together. Well played! No wonder Jenna Lyons keeps you on speed dial.
I also keep some of my clothes for ages, and those are the best! Also, that neklace is just AMAZING… I'm still trying to figure out how to wear statement jewellery, so many thanks for the inspiration:)

Great shoes!
I love love love that necklace and cardi! I really need to get me some oversized necklaces and cardigans, ahh! 🙂
http://nataliebrooke.wordpress.com
I love this look. Ive been way too into cardigans. Oh, and she should totally stop stalking you!
My Heart Blogged
love that necklace! a lot of my clothes are at least a year old. as much as i would love the most current things all the time, it's not easy as a girl on a budget so I think it's important to build a timeless wardrobe as you go! timeless though, doesn't have to be boring, like you're fun look! yay, kendi!
i wander, i wonder
Love the color combination of the necklace and cardigan.
Today must be all about the comfy outfits. I featured one on my blog, too!
I love the necklace and cardi together! The proportions here are seriously excellent!
I love the cardi and statement necklace together – gorgeous!
Kendi, one of the best parts of your blog is that you repeat clothing items, and wear things that "normal" girls can wear. Thanks for doing what you do!
if i had no morals and was stealth enough i'd figure out a way to sneak into your closet and borrow that necklace, i said borrow because i have morals. however that's probably just downright creepy-ish, so i'll just say if you ever want to sell that beaut at an inflated rate you have a buyer. and a loyal blog follower, i adore this blog, it's the best. thanks for sharing.
hey thanks anon! that means a lot 🙂
This is such a pretty outfit — I love the green and yellow together!
It's really cool to hang onto clothes for a long time. Some of my clothes are seeped with good memories, and being able to wear those again helps celebrate those old times.
You make easy and effortless, chic and stylin lady!
I linked your page in my Inspiration Thursday post. Please let me know if you mind.
Aubrey

Perfect colors! Love love them.
It's great to see a comfortable and still chic outfit. You're amazing girl.
Aubrey — I don't mind at all! Thanks for letting me know and for thinking of me!
LOVE this outfit, even in it's simplicity!
The top I'm wearing today is a black stretcy velvet button down shirt that my dad bought me while I was in high school. Which is faaaarrr longer than one year ago (or even one decade). Because everything cycles in and out of style, and since the 90s are now sold as "vintage" I can thrift in my own closet.
I love this! The different lengths on the layers and the laid-back, yet pulled together feel are all A+ in my book!
I'm late to this party, but I just wanted to say that I love this outfit. I have this necklace and I've had a really hard time styling it. I haven't gotten past a plain white or black tank top, bc I felt like anything else was too much. But I love this look. It's so simple and I can totally recreate it. THANK YOU!
I love how you make simple outfits look so chic! The mustard and green look beautiful together, I love it!
http://www.thejoyoffashion.blogspot.com
I love the colors of this outfit! The necklace and the cardigan look amazing together and both against the dark blue of the denim=fantastic.
Those UO heels are so ladylike and classic! They look fabulous with the rest of your ensemble.
