No no, you aren’t seeing spots. I am just wearing dots on my top half and my bottom half. Unless you are actually seeing spots, then you should lie down, take two pills of something and call me in the morning. I’m not actually a doctor, but sometimes I like to introduce myself as such. People are always amazed at how young I am to be a doctor.
So dots on dots, your thoughts? Too much? Just right? Does the dot to dot ratio matter? What about the size of the dots in comparison to the other dots? And then there is dot concentration, dot opacity, the coloring of dots. These are the questions that keep me awake at night. That and what’s the meaning of life. But mostly the dot to dot ratio thing. That’s a tough one.
Tonight I’m a bit light on the words. I always run out of words on Mondays. I tweeted earlier tonight that I had blogger’s block (a rare form of writer’s block) and wondered if ice cream would cure it. Well friends, the verdict is — inconclusive. I’ll let you know after a few more pints.

  1. I love mixing dots and dots, it makes one spotty! I mean, dotty. Spotty dotty. Hm. Looks like I need to eat some ice cream and lie down, Dr. Kendi.

The dot ratio is perfectly fine, not too much at all. These photos are purely lovely. Are those real bamboo?

  2. I love this – I actually donned a spotted top and some dotted tights Friday (and completely forgot to take a picture before I spilled my Route 44 diet cherry coke from Sonic on myself…)!

  3. umm… is that a bamboo field? How amazing! Who knew those existed in Texas?

And I think that your dot to dot ratio is perfect. Two dot patterns of the same size and density would be been a little overwhelming, but because they dots are spaced out on the bottom, I think it works great!

    Way to go!

  4. your spot ratio is perfect! I love that J. Crew skirt, I was going to get it, but it didn't fit me well. You look great in it though!

  5. These photos are gorgeous – I love the scenery!
I love the dots on dots and rock it myself quite often!

  6. Haha dot is fine. I don't think I can pull it off though cause I'm more of a stripes girl but that looks nice. I love that you chose to wear a mustard-yellow skirt for a pop of color. You look nice and so are those bamboos 🙂

  7. at the end of the day all that matters is that you look fabulous as always!!
love the background-those are bamboo arent they? holy HUGE!!

  8. Your posts always have me giggle. The dot to dot ratio here is looking just right. So since you've got the dot to dot ratio right, how about a stripes to stripes ratio? I'm sure you can come up with something fantastic as always:)

  9. I think you're more apt to pull off the dotted tights because you're long and lean, whereas I might look a bit like a character from the Wizard of Oz. PS: Where were these pictures taken? Sho don't look like Texas…

  10. I love it!! This outfit is adorable! And you've made me realize I have nothing with dots on it! Craziness!! I know what my new fashion mission is… Dots and bows. I'm liking bows this season too.

On a side note, that location is beautiful! Is that Texas?? Or did you fly out to China for a bamboo forest shoot? The colors, everything about these pictures is awesome. I am a starting photographer and your husband is now my idol. 🙂 jk… But seriously…

  11. You can pull anything off, your style is so sophisticated and classy. I absolutely adored the colours, too! Dots on dots, in this case, rock!

  12. forget the dots! I'm enchanted by that bamboo forest!
And for the record, I tend to think that Ice Cream fixes most everything.

  13. At first I didn't even realize that your tights had polka dots on them, but now that I see, it's definitely a good dot-to-dot ratio. That's a scientific term, dot-to-dot ratio.

And no worries about the bloggers block. It's pretty common.

  14. The dots on your tights are so subtle that you can hardly see them. I think you accomplished the right balance between your top and bottom! perfect!….I love the booties too!

  15. These photos are amazing! I also love the mustard with the polka dot shirt. This whole outfit is perfection!

  16. Dots on dots is a moot point. You always look fab.
HOWEVER………. the photos today are positively magical, ethereal, whimsical. I can't get over how cool they look. It makes me think of Honey I Shrunk the Kids, and you're a hip, fashionable bug.

  17. That blogger's block seems to be going around. I haven't tried the ice cream cure. I'm gonna get on that.

I like the polka dot combo. I'd call it perfectly "whimsical."

  18. Kendi, I love the dots! I think I am going to wear this outfit tomorrow to work.. just black tights though (no dot tights, tear).

Let me know the next time you are in Austin, we can go vintage shopping 🙂

  19. Haha, no — no trip to the Amazon. This is actually in someone's backyard. Crazy right? There are actually two places in this tiny Texas town with bamboo, weird and so very random. But I'll take it!

  20. love the black/caramel/black/cognac colour blocking & all the polka dots keep it interesting; i have that skirt in grey & you constantly make me rue not getting it in the burnt sienna, too. but maybe this just means i need to buy coordinating grey booties, yes?

& bravo for wearing tights in this weather. this texan indian summer is killing me. i was promised sweaters and tights and corduroy! sigh.

  21. Dear Kendi,
Sometimes I get sad. Or rather, my closet gets sad. Sometimes it decides that it doesn't want to get with the program. And then I come to your blog. And I see that your closet is with the program EVERY DAY. So I tell my closet to shape up. Cause "dude, Kendi's closet is kicking your trash." And then my closet is awesome again. True story.

    xoxo

  22. the dot to dot ratio seems just about right! and in this outfit they look great (those tights are so cute!). i think the dots could vary in size and still be deemed visually appealing, but i think some separation with a solid (like you've done) is necessary.

  23. Hi Kendi! I'm Heidi… found your awesome blog today through What I Wore. I have to ask!!! Are those the bamboo trees in Austin, TX?! I got so excited when I saw these pictures!

Loved your hair tut, btw. THANK YOU for sharing! ::offtodohairlikeKendi::

  24. Mk, one more comment. I did an awesome independent thing & took a looksie at your 'about' section wherein I found out that you LIVE IN TEXAS!

Now I feel awkward because my ridiculous love for all things Texas is showing. Hehe.

So glad to have found your blog!
