So this was my one purchase from the Tucker for Target line. I wanted so much more but I’m on a bit of a shopping break (just a break you guys, not a full on separation. we will work things out.) This shirt was a) my favorite and b) the cheapest — which never happens. I have a keen ability to hone in on the most expensive item in the room and fall madly in love with it. $24.99? Yes please.
This is going to sound weird but I wish my pants were higher. I imagined my pants coming up a lot higher on my waist than they actually do. I was really going for a 70’s vibe, which I think my sweater vest that I pulled out of a box in the garage really helps. Do you ever do that? Imagine that your outfit looks like something that it’s not? (Not desperately pulling clothes out of boxes from your garage) This happens most of the time. I blame getting dressed in the dark every morning and/or a lack of planning. Or maybe I just have a really good imagination. Yes, let’s go with that.
(By the way, I think Mary Tyler Moore would really like my outfit. Rhoda would hate it.)

Love that line! I picked up this exact shirt as well as the blue floral dress. I think it's one of my favorite Target collections so far.
I just started following your blog – its just lovely. I love your soft bow blouse! So pretty!.. and mary tyler moore would def love your outfit lol 😉
LOVE the Tucker shirt with the vest…looks great!!
Our Target was clear sold out of everything!!!…:(

The blouse is awesome. I only wish I could pull off orange polka dots so poshly!
And I do that pretty much every day of my life, imagining outfits differently than they appear. I totally blame a good imagination.
I want that shirt but everyone seems to have it! Regardless, you look great!
I'm going to agree with everyone and say: Must have that blouse!
I saw this shirt today and almost bought it! So cute.
I'm glad the sweater vest is making a comeback. 🙂
I love how those jeans look so tailored. It looks really cute.

That blouse is gorgeous & I loved how you've styled it!
You definately achieved the 70's look your were going for.
ahh I'm in love with mary tyler moore. And yes she would love that outfit. Correct once again Rhoda would not. Is it weird that I totally wish I had pants that went higher on me too. I have an awesome pair of high waisted trousers but I just need a couple more inches….okay yeah that's weird.
Kendi,
You look so beautiful all the time! Just glowing 🙂
I love this blouse, it suits you to a t!
I would love to buy some of the Tucker for Target line but I live in Canada, and Target does not ship to Canada 🙁
Sometimes I imagine how the outfit is going to look on me, and then I put it on and it does not pan out so well, hahaha. Have a lovely week!
I totally snagged this shirt too, but I haven't worn it since I'm in the middle of my 30-for-30. Looks great on you! I'm dying to buy some high-waisted 70's bell bottoms, but I'm just not sure how long they'll be in style.
This outfit is so perfectly retro! I do love that shirt, I wish we had target here.

OH MY WORD!!!! WORDS CANNOT EXPRESS HOW MUCH I LOVE THE TUCKER FOR TARGET LINE, HENCE THE ALL CAPS POST!!! I GOT MYSELF A DRESS, A TUNIC AND A BLOUSE AND AM IN LOVE WITH ALL THREE PIECES. IN FACT I LOVE THEM SO MUCH I AM GOING TO SEND YOU A PICTURE OF ME WEARING THE TUNIC! Okay, sorry, that was kinda scary.
I'm so glad I checked my Google Reader tonight and came across this post. Literally 30 minutes ago I had that shirt on (playing dress up in my closet)and I was considering returning it since I wasn't sure how to wear it. I don't have any sweater vests but I can certainly search for one! Thanks so much for the inspiration and for saving me from buyers remorse. Love your blog!
I'm really digging your 70's look. I think it looks just like I would have imagined, but I get what you're saying. Sometimes I'll snap my blog photos and think, yick, this looks nothing like I planned.
that top is awesome, do you know if its still for being sold? on second thought, i'll just head over to target.com and take a looksy. 🙂
I totally wish I had a pair or two of high-waisted trousers! Not the gross, unflattering kind we all remember from the early 90's. More of a 50s-70s vibe, definitely. I think this comes from wearing so many high-waisted (ie, natural-waisted) skirts lately and wishing I could replicate the look with pants.
Plus, I don't know about anyone else, but pants as they're currently cut just dig right into my belly when I'm sitting down, even on a skinny day. I altered a pair of pants into a pair of high-waisted shorts by adding enough extra fabric to the inner thigh to give an extra 5" rise, and I gotta say, they are the most comfortable pant-like garment I've ever worn, outside of my knit gauchos. I guess I will just have to figure out how to make myself a flattering pair of high-waisted pants.
love it! Laverne would love it is you had a big K on the vest!
Such a cute outfit. I can't believe you had that vest in a box… it's so cute. You have an eye for putting together cute outfits, even if they don't turn out exactly as you hope.

This is such a cute outfit Kendi! The vest just completes it 🙂

I love how you wore this! I was wearing the same top mad men style but it totally channels MTM as well! I also have the butterfly cami that I wore in my post today and I love how silky the material feels.
Beautiful! Love your vest too! 🙂
I saw that blouse in my Target yesterday and didn't try it on, just oohed and ahhed as J and I picked up cleaning supplies and personal hygene products. You have now confirmed that another trip to Target today is necessary.
I have that problem constantly. I posssibly disallusioned to how my clothes actually look on me. Oh well.
I keep seeing Tucker for Target pieces popping up on blogs, and its making me want to go take a second look at the line. Also, I just wanted to let you know I FINALLY finished my 30 for 30 challenge! Thanks for inspiring me to try it…I hope you will stop by and check it out!

I have that shirt too! And I got a very 70s vibe from it too.
I'm so going to wear it with high-waited pants now 🙂
Love that top! I have definitely bought low rise jeans, with the intention of buying jeans with a higher waist and then saying, wait, these aren't high rise at all. I think it's because I am so used to low low jeans, that when it is something with a regular waist I am fooled.
this entire outfit is perfection! i LOVE polka-dots!!! 🙂
I came so close to buying a Tucker for Target sweater vest the other day, and now I just may have to go back and get it… Love the Mary Tyler Moore comment, by the way, and I have to agree: I can totally see her wearing that outfit to lunch with Lou, Ted, and Murray. Love it!
I love the Tucker for Target line! I am waffling on whether to purchase the orange and cream herringbone skirt. I think I will, even though I have more than spent my clothing budget this month already!

i love your new header( idk if it's new or not,,but i just realise). And yes!! i love ur blouse,, so vintage!
xoxo
I have that shirt – and it's great to see other people wear it/style it! Tucker for Target is AMAZING! (Congrats on controlling your spending … I bought WAY too much!)
I'm in love with that shirt (and the whole outfit). I doubt it's still available, but I'm totally going to check!
That happens to me almost every day where my outfit doesn't quite match what I thought in my head. Eh. Oh well.
I love this outfit on you! That shirt with blue denim is great.
I LOVE Mary Tyler Moore! Such a great show, I have all the seasons on DVD. This outfit would fit perfectly in the show. Love the fun pattern!
The WHOLE outfit is amazing! Definite inspiration material for us readers 🙂
So glad you nabbed that blouse – it just screams Kendi.
Love the shirt! I also picked it up and wanted to pair mine with dark denim. However, I don't have a similiar vest or I would try to a complete copy of your outfit =) Thanks for the inspiration!
I think a higher waist would look great! But this looks really nice too. I love the shirt/vest combo! Now I'm off to check out the Tucker collection online (our Target only got like one or two things. major bummer)
You definitely have a way of showcasing pieces. I saw this shirt online at Target and never would have purchased it because it looked really bad on the model. But you just sold it to me by wearing it with this outfit. Target should send you free clothes.
I really like the entire Tucker for Target line…I only ended up buying one piece too! I didn't see that shirt and it's cute.

First of all this outfit is amazing. Secondly, you look absolutely beautiful in these pictures, that last picture is probably my favorite of you so far! 🙂
http://simplysunstar.blogspot.com/
very very cute! I know what you mean- you have grand plans for the way the outfit is supposed to look (in your head) but then you put it on and it's all wrong. happens every now and then- in fact, it happened to me yesterday!
I am now coveting that shirt! Thanks! 😉
LOVE THIS LOOK. The top and vest are great, as are your jeans. You pull off the 70s vibe without being too cliche looking. Really cool outfit!
I love this! I think it's the perfect balance of 70's and 2000's. Lovely!
Just got the JessLC email promo with your pic in it! I think it's really cool that she used you as her jewelry model. ::high fives::
OMG! I can't believe I did not see your blog until now!! I 100% love your style, your humor, your love for you husband and most important I love how you love yourself enough to look so good everyday! 🙂
Today I became your fan!
The same thing happens to me! I always manage to fall in love with the most expensive (insert object of desire). So I'm glad there's hope for us in finding the fab, but less budget-breaking item.
I just got the vest from Gap! I am going to buy this shirt from Target and wear them together it's just perfect. Hope you don't mind. xo!
That is by far my favorite piece from the Tucker line. Great way to style it too.

I'm digging the retro vibe of this outfit. Would it be crazy to say that I've never seen the Mary Tyler Moore show? I'll have to take your word that she would like the outfit. 🙂
I saw this top in Lucky and thought I have to get it when it comes out, but the sleeves and where it hits in relation to the girls just doesn't work. I'm very disappointed. I'll live vicariously through you and enjoy the one dress I did pick up from the line.
And I'm always having a head creation outfit to reality discrepancy. I hate when that happens!
I haven't had the chance to check out Tucker for Target yet but I'm going to have to make it a priority for the weekend after this post!
I have the same shirt and love it too! I expect a lot of other people do now as well : ) I like how you styled it. I kind of feel like watching Mary Tyler Moore re-runs now.
That blouse is adorable! I haven't been to Target in a while for the safety of my wallet, but I may have to drop by today. So cute!
I'm wanting a few pairs of high waisted pants, too.
You can make skirts high waisted by buying 3 sizes smaller and wearing on high waist – but, of course doesn't work with pants.
No idea why these aren't available to use over the last six months = going into fall.
They are in demand!!
I am definately getting a retro vibe from your outfit and I love it!
Love the shirt! I will have to pick up one for myself. However, would it be grandma-ish (yes that's a word) to pair it with a long blue pencil skirt? I hope not because that's my imagination.
PS. Love the new header!!
I'm in love with high waisted pants right now myself~! I passed on the Tucker for Target collection, I'm usually very big on their collaborations too!
Beautiful!! I love all your outfits..
I applaud your restraint with the Tucker for Target line. I, on the other hand, went bananas and purchased the shirt you're wearing, plus another one in a different print, and a floral dress, and a skirt.
Oh, and did I mention that I'm on a so-called shopping break too! *SMH*

I love that shirt. I'm on a shopping break and don't really have an end date in mind, because I have no room for more clothes.
I Love that shirt… I just don't know if I could get away with it. You look darling, though!
love that shirt! i almost bought it! i bought a dress instead…but i may just have to add that shirt too.
When I saw this line I was so excited! In fact I tried on that exact shirt with the cute lil skirt that was with it…sadly it did not look that cute on me…booo
love polka dots!
come follow and vote 4 me xxo
Such a cute blouse! I need to get myself to target to check out that line… lovely outfit!

Love this outfit, it's so adorable! The orange looks great with dark pants.
I just bought that shirt! 🙂 Love the outfit.
Fantastic styling! I have been trying to resist buying anything from the Tucker line, but now I am rethinking…
LOVE the shirt! Can't wait to go check out the whole line soon!
So Mary Tyler Moore! 🙂
Love love that shirt, I'll have to check it out at Target.
LOVE it.
LOVE this outfit! I've been into the 70s vibes, lately. Oh man, looks like I missed out on Tucker for Target!!

Hi Kendi,
Thanks for the inspiration – I used this as the base for a recent outfit.
You have awesome style. Thanks for sharing.
I love the blouse and your witty blog. I'm a first-time reader, but I'll definitely be back!
