This week did not go as I had planned. I had visions of granduer for this week, that I would show this week who was boss but instead it trumped me. And I let it. But I like my new shirt and believe it or not, that helps. There is nothing like a cheap new shirt that’s really soft and feels like I’m wearing a pillow case, but looks expensive and vintage. Am I right or am I right?
Did you ever know that poem when you were younger that started with “We’re going on a bear hunt/ we’re going to catch a big one”? For some reason, I woke up this morning with that in my head. I immediately woke my husband up and recited this part to him.
A forest
A deep, dark forest
We can’t get over it
We can’t get under it
We can’t get around it
We’ll have to go through it!
We can’t get under it
We can’t get around it
We’ll have to go through it!
It was 6:45 am. My husband did not care nor understand why I was reciting a poem most 5 year olds know and how that related to our problems. But maybe all I needed to know in life I did learn in kindergarten. Here we are standing in front of a large dark forest and we have no idea what is on the other side, we just know we need to get there. We can’t go around it. We can’t go over it. We can’t go under it, although God knows we’ve tried. All we can do is go through it. You better believe that I’m going through it in heels, though, I’d have it no other way.
So here’s to Plans B, C, and D. Because we all know that Plan A was never going to happen anyways.

I can relate! Go through it and you'll be a better person. Can't wait to hear what good things come from it.
You can do it!
i know that poem 🙂
this whole look is so classically gorgeous. also, and i hope you take this as a compliment cos i mean it as one; you remind me of katie holmes in that last photo.
(i know it's risky comparing someone to a celeb in case they don't like that person, but i think she's really pretty!)
Oh i definitely will take the Katie Holmes compliment and run with it! Thank you 🙂
I have always wanted to own a cat and name it Kitty Holmes Cruise…
I'm really into this outfit.
And a great post, as well.
Very nice, Kendi!
You look great Kendi! I am all too familiar with the Bear Hunt song, as well as other kindergarten songs. :o)
This outfit is so classy! Love it! The blouse looks like vintage…a great H&M find! And I'm pretty sure I had a whole birthday party based around that poem when I was in kindergarten…complete with face painting and balloon animals haha
Sorry you're having a terrible week! That blouse is stunning on you though!
You may be having a bad week, but you look fabulous going through it!!!
That blouse looks so lovely with the mustard skirt. I really love the feel of the scene in these photos.
That blouse is stunning! It only makes desire for a nearby H&M even stronger. Absolutely gorgeous!
Honey I'm so sad your having a bad week!! If it helps at all I've had a crappy week too. We can suck together 🙂 Also, you look cute – and I reckon that's a sure way to feel better!!
I hope the week ends better for you! big hug! xoxo
i absolutely love this combo. the skirt color is fabulous. and i love that top too!
ha ha we actually have a kids song built around that poem in finland. it has movements and all. but it's called the lion hunt so no bears. and i also like the outfit! loving all the different shades of yellow. especially the mustard skirt
I'm a This American Life junkie and this post reminds me of an episode called Plan B http://www.thisamericanlife.org/radio-archives/episode/205/plan-b

I also love that poem – I totally know it – though I did not wake up with it stuck in my head. But who knows what tomorrow holds… 🙂

I am in love with that color yellow this fall!

I really like how you likened taking Plans B, C, etc. to walking through a forest in heels. This is why I enjoy your writing. Both matter-of-fact with a little bit of silly. 🙂
Plus, that outfit is darling on you, darling.
Toast with Charmalade
I love how vintage looking this whole look is. I also love your accessory – I have a camera just like that which belonged to my grandfather, and you've inspired me to take outfit shots with it 🙂
X
it's a beautiful skirt, forest or no.
I love the colors of this outfit. Very muted.
We used to recite that poem in Girl Scouts all the time.

well said Kendi!
Love the top. It's just enough lace.
Gorgeous outfit and lovely post :.)
P.S. Great poem! Now it will be stuck in my head.
Oh good gravy, you have no idea now much that relates to me right now. It has been the roughest of all weeks, and I'm so relieved Friday has finally rolled around.
On the upside, you look freakin' awesome. This is one of my favorite Kendi styles ever.
I don't think we learned that poem in Canada. We had some crap song that went, "The bear went over the mountain, the bear went over the mountain, the bear went over the mountain, to see what he could see." And all that he could see was the other side of the mountain.
Love this look!! The blouse is really pretty. Very nice find.
Love this combination, and that shirt totally looks vintage (with probably a much cheaper price tag). It's such a classic, almost "Old Hollywood" look~ And, hey, look at the forest this way: At least you'll know you'll make it through well-dressed!
You look so much like the actress Mary Louise Parker in these pictures it is not even funny!
Wow, what a revelation to wake up to. That was God sent girl. ;o) Love the shirt. I am not a big fan of mustard, but you make it work. (i'm a poet and I don't know it). Anyway, it's FRIDAY!!! So here's to a great weekend for you and for me!!
You remind me so much of Katharine Mcphee 🙂
Strangely, Kendi, I completely relate to your forest analogy, and I feel like I'm right there with you. But you're making going through the forest look oh-so-chic in this perfect fall look!
This outfit is amazing, love your new shirt!

i love the mix of neutrals (yes, i think mustard yellow is a neutral) in this look. and that top is extra flattering with your skin tone.
so pretty! hope you feel better soon, kendi my friendi.
You look like a capital L Lady in this, Kendi.
Here's hoping you prevail over NEXT week, eh?
What a perfect beginning-of-fall outfit. I absolutely love the mustard skirt. This week may have trumped you but you're trumping the forest!
obsessed with this outfit, absolutely gorgeous darlin!
great message! love the new shirt and yes…looks very vintage
Mustard is in for fall love the skirt!

Kendi I look forward to reading your blog every day!!! I love your outfits. THey inspire me to infuse some fun into my work outfit, especially since I have a quasi uniform. Loving this outfit!!!!
I like the small sling bag you have! it looks like a camera?
Beautiful post, lovely outfit. I adore the detailing on that blouse and your play of neutrals.
Here's to a wonderful, restful weekend and a better next week.
Anon — good call, it IS a camera. It's my husband's grandfathers old film camera.
kendi, i love the outfit. as an asian (and yellow) its really hard for me to pull off mustard yellow and i so wish i can… and yes, you're right. it looks expensive and vintage. love the vintage camera too.
Hi Kendi….LOVE LOVE your classic look here:)
Great finds at really affordable stores too!
You look fabulous as always…!
Have a Fashionable Weekend:)

Fabulous outfit and as always love the commentary.
Wow. That's a little foreboding. It makes me nervous for you. But you have demonstrated so much strength and integrity that I have total faith you'll be just fine.
Especially if you're in heels. 🙂
I'm catching up on weeks of unread internet (seriously, when you see the header on your bloglovin' read over 300 unread posts, it is Bad News Bears), and I just wanted to say thankyouthankyouthankyou for labeling your Steve Madden "Intyce" (really, SM? "Intyce"?) boots a few days ago! I've been looking for a good replacement for my nearly destroyed leather boots, and with my birthday (and attendant checks from grandmas) coming up this week, I immediately ran (well, "ran") over the SM site immediately and could hardly click "add to cart" fast enough. Now I just need this weather to start cooperating so I can bust out the tights…
Wish I looked as good when I have a sucky week! You are truly adorable and your writing and little quips makes me smile.
I get behind on your blog cause the Blog Gods don't evidently like me and although I have signed up many a time to receive you daily, it never comes!!! I have to remember to just look you up, but that's ok, it's like I get this little present everytime I do look at your pictures and read your posts.
Crap! see what I mean, Blog Gods have it out for me, that or I'm just dumber than a box of rocks when it comes to all this which is more likely the case. The above anonymous is once again me Hotsy Malone!
Daughter, I'm so glad I taught you "Going on a bear hunt" I knew it would come in handy some day.
Love the blouse! Can't wait until it goes out of fashion and you give it to me! Your make me proud again.
Love always,
Mom
(your mom is super cute) ^^^
I love this outfit. It is so beautifully put together and you look stunning!
Now I know where you get your sense of humor from! Its bloody genetics! Pardon my filthy mouth. Your mom is super cute and super funny. That's a lot of super.
Also you look absolutely fantastic in this 'cheap new shirt that's really soft and feels like I'm wearing a pillow case, but looks expensive and vintage' blouse. Very classy.
Love,
Deepti
What an inspiring post! You look amazing as always 🙂
Love how beautifully the colors go together in this outfit. Totally gorgeous. Also, high five for walking down the trail in those heels!
Your top is really pretty, I love that you mix "high" and "low" and it's always so you. I'm glad I am following your blog!

I love this look, the muted colors and new vintage top are so beautiful. You are gong to send me running to H&M, I love that top so much!
Chic on the Cheap
Great skirt! I love the combination of the lace and the skirt. I can't wait to explore your blog more!
Love the yellow skirt from Gap!
Absolutely gorgeous! Did you recently purchase that shirt from H&M? I need to get it! I like the striped one too. You have great style.
ah-mayy-zing.
it IS girl scout camp bear hunt season, isn't it? 'bout time.
oh I love your lace detail!
