6.08.10How lovely is my skirt? I can not take full credit for the cuteness of this skirt for Kjrsten from Have a Cute Day bought it, wore it, decided it wasn’t for her and put it up for sale on Friday. I bought it, she shipped it and I slept in it last because I love it so much. (Other items I love so much they sleep with me: my phone, my husband, Lucky magazine, and a chocolate bar with almonds — because you just never know.)

I realize that lately I have been flooding my outfit posts with items from Anthro, so I know what you may be thinking. A) She’s rich B) She’s a liar C) There is no way she is for real. Well my friends, none of those options are true. I am not rich, I am not a liar (fingers crossed) and I am, in fact, for real. And by real, I mean really good at finding Anthropologie items on sale. I have found the best Anthro in the world that hordes all of the good product until it goes on sale and then I they tuck away my sizes and I magically find them when I show up unexpectedly. That or I find people online who sell it secondhand. Or I mug people who are wearing it. Okay I dabbled in anthrobbery once or twice, but I’ve changed my ways after I served time in a messy Sears dressing room.

In all seriousness though, if there is one thing I believe in it’s the sales rack and a good bargain. (Ok so that’s two things I believe in. Oh and math! That’s 3) I almost get annoyed nowadays if I have to buy something full price. In fact most of the time (with Target and Forever21 as exceptions) I don’t buy anything at full price. Sure I’ve missed out on a few items, but I’ve found that if you wait even just a month or two, your husband will be astounded by how disciplined you are and he will let you buy more things because of all the money you saved.
After all, money does not grow on trees. It grows on husbands and second jobs.

  1. I yelped when I saw this post! (I'm sure my fiance thought I was having a heartattack.) You look FANTASTIC! I can't get over those stripes and the necklace and belt?! It was almost too much for me! Thank you for bringing some color into my day.

  2. oh i love love your skirt (and I like the outfit you played it into)! (and the background scenery is quite lovely)
until I read your blog I had never heard of anthropologie….must be the fact that i live in eastern Canada (i will definitely have to check it out online…)

  3. My friend works at Anthro and gets a killer discount there and Urban. I keep trying to get her to get me some deals, but I'd feel bad. Loveeee all of Anthro's pieces though, including that skirt!

  4. mmm i love a good sale, but sadly i am spineless in the face of one. sales say to me "want a striped tee shirt for 50% off? nevermind that you already have eight striped tee shirts just like it, YOU MUST BUY IT."
maybe your sale shopping isn't so much like this, especially considering this amazing dress…

  5. Kendi, I went to Anthro today and I swear to you that I everything that I touched, I thought "What would Kendi wear?!"

I promise you that I did. I saw so many things and knew that you would hide them if they were in your size! LOL

Oddly enough, their stuff is never on sale enough for me but sometimes some things are worth getting…except their jewelry…it's too expensive! But oh so lovely!

    I'm rambling again…damnit!

That secondhand skirt is beautiful! The only thing you were missing in your pics was a lolipop or ice cream cone!

  6. Oh how I love Anthropologie. I once snagged a super cute dress from there for $20 and I was quite proud. I myself also do not like to pay full price. Sales racks are the first thing I go for always.

  7. That skirt is darling!! I don't think injad ever paid full price for an anthro item, i just can't do it. You have found some amazing sale/second hand items though!

  8. Hahaha, you're always the charmer. 😀 I continually love your writing, not to mention your adorable outfits. The full skirt is perfect on you, and the blue necklace really pops! I also really like the backdrop of these photos, the stone wall and trees… I feel like you should be swinging on a swing, too, haha.

  9. I just have to say that I love your little stories and witty comments that accompany each post. It really makes it enjoyable for me to read 🙂 And your clothes are of course so stinkin' cute! I too rarely pay full price for things anymore. it just seems wrong to when you can find so many great things on sale.

  10. Ah, the beauty of second hand clothing! I love looking on ebay for anthro stuff, usually I'll find a great deal!
You look really pretty in these soft colors, especially with the bright blue by your face.
I'll have to remind my husband about that last sentence…

  11. Please wear this outfit everyday from now until forever. It looks fantastic!

And I hear that re: sales shopping. But I do so much thrift store shopping that I often pass up $10 retail items as too expensive.

  12. Good grief! What a doll! And oh, thanks for makin' me have to read this blog at home so I don't laugh out loud at work. 🙂

  13. the top and skirt together could pass for a gorgeous dress! even if they're separates, still gorgeous. Love the backgrounds too!

  14. Fabulous look! I love how you belted it high on your waist. And that necklace is gorgeous!

P.S. I hope your time in the Sears dressing room wasn't too traumatic :)…and you learned your lesson!

  15. So I just have to say, that this outfit is just too adorable! Anthro is one of my favorite stores too!! Unfortunately, I usually just go in and look, but don't buy. (Like going to a free art gallery) Nice to know that they actually have good sales racks. (I guess I don't get to the store that often) I just started following your blog, and I wanted you to know that you crack me up! I can't believe how well I can relate to you and your stories. Thanks for taking time to share your thoughts and outfits! I look forward to reading more posts! 🙂

  16. How do I love this outfit? Let me count the ways:
1.) The blue of the necklace matches the blue in the skirt perfectly!
2.) The belt & shoe combo balance the softness of the skirt & top.
3.) That skirt has a gorgeous silhouette.
4.) Seriosly, that skirt! I wants it.

  17. "After all, money does not grow on trees. It grows on husbands and second jobs."

oh my god, I love your blog so much!! you make me laugh on every single text you post. AND you're beautiful! isn't there supposed to be a law against that? 😉

    um beijo from Brazil,

  18. ugh. you totally called me out.
i admit–i thought you were rich. but it's 'cause there is not even an anthro store in my entire state, so all i see are the mega online & catalog prices. not the *sniff* clearance rack prices. i'm glad that you are real. and i think i'm going to paint this quote in my office: "after all, money does not grow on trees. it grows on husbands and second jobs."

okay, i don't have an office. but maybe i will write it on a piece of paper and hang it on my fridge.

  19. eek, confession – I have a total girl crush on you! You look awesome in everything I've tried on and looked not so awesome in…including that necklace. Don't ask me how a necklace could not look good on someone, because the SA at my Anthro agreed with me. I'm a sale lover, too – my boss always tells me I dress way better than I get paid (and he would know). Sales baby, gotta love the sales!

  20. that last line is hilarioussssss.

I love your mantra! looking great and feeling great doesnt matter how much you spend. It's how you carry yourself and how you feel. You my dear radiate happiness and confidence. I LOVE this skirt on u!!! You look like a cowl of sherbert i Just want to eat up!

    hearts. xo, Kim http://www.crowded-closet.com

  21. i have been scoping out that necklace for some time now. it's so pretty! and i love the way you paired it. anthropologie really has some of the most pretty and unique jewelry.

  22. I am also a master at finding Anthro on sale! I never buy full price…ebay is actually a great resource for me 🙂 – anyway, love that skirt and love this outfit in general. That necklace is awesome.

  23. Great post and I totally agree! If you just have patience you can get many great things on super markdown!

  24. This outfit is so amazing. I like how you made some comments about always shopping during sales, checking sale wracks, going to Target, etc. I do the exact same thing, and people are often surprised at what you can find on sale and at thrift shops. You can look good without breaking the bank 🙂

Love your style and your blog!

  25. Kendi, your sass always makes me laugh! Anthrobbery? Hahaha. I forgo balanced meals and important things like haircuts to support my Anthro habit. I should really be more disciplined and better groom the sales rack.

  26. Ahhhhhh Kendi!! That skirt is AMAZING!! I LOVE it – I'm so excited and jealous all at the same time that i can't help but use GIANT CAPITAL LETTERS!

  27. Couldn't agree with you more. I never buy anything at full price. It's like admiting defeat in battle.
I would like to know if the tank in the "an apologie" post is Anthro's Summer Wandering tank. Because I simply love the color of it your pictures versus Anthro's online pics, and would really like to pick one up if it is the same.

  28. Such an awesome visual of you smacking someone in the head with a fierce wedge and taking their cardi. Anthrobbery is the new black.

    Love your blog!

  29. Ok Miss Kendi, I think this is my favorite outfit I've seen thus far (which is a tall order, because I love absolutely everything you put together). And the fact that the skirt is "pre-loved" makes me adore it even more.

  30. i simply adore you in this skirt! so glad kjrsten was done with it so it can live on happily in your life!

  31. I love the skirt and I am experiencing slight necklace jealousy (I had a crush on the same on in pink, but I backed away because of the price tag – I've lived to regret it!).

I have to agree with you that anthro is like a wonderland. It's almost impossible for me to go in there and NOT find something I want. I've gotten into the habit of browsing and putting a mental sticky note on the things I love and then coming back a month later to look for them in sale. Sometimes the antro sale section can be overwhelming and messy, so it helps me to already know what I'm looking for.

  32. Such a cute outfit Kendi, as usual.
I try and buy Anthro secondhand too, but mostly I've just resigned myself to the fact that I should just direct deposit half my paychecks to Anthro every month….

  33. I don't know how it is that I am JUST now finding your blog. You're like my Anthro sister! Where have I been? Anyhow, you have wonderful style, and I love your outfits. I'm a follower now. Hope you check me out 🙂
