4.14.10When I got to my computer tonight, I realized I had made a huge mistake. I accidentally ordered thousands of dollars worth of clothing from various internet companies but all in the wrong size. Just kidding, I accidentally deleted all of my outfit photos from yesterday. To be honest, I think it was an act of God. The outfit was nothing to write home about — or well write about in general. That just means my darlings that I am now 2 days behind on my outfits. Now who does that surprise? I’m just happy that I can get up in the morning and find clean underwear so being only two days behind for me is an accomplishment.
Why is it that whenever you put a little bit of leather on you feel like a total bad-ass? My belt here is probably not even made of real leather but I put it on and feel like a rock star. And by rock star I mean someone who has played a few gigs in their hometown on the weekends and still lives at home in their parents basement. Check out my moves:

A rock star by any other constipated face is still a rock star, right?
Speaking of fake leather, in 9th grade I bought a pair of snake skin pleather (plastic+leather) pants to wear to homecoming. So picture me with large teeth hidden under layers of orthodontia, untamed hair and stick legs walking up to a football game in September in Texas (read — it’s still 90 degrees) in snake skin pants. Needless to say, I was not wearing a mum on my shoulder nor a boy on my arm. A great lesson was learned that evening — Plastic does not give and legs, when forced into unnatural fabrics, will relentlessly sweat. Also, the said sweat had nowhere to go but down and therefore my size 11 Doc Martens soon became a pool for two very sweaty legs.
I thank God everyday that I am no longer 14. And that I finally traded in those snakeskin pants and doc martens for a nice pleather belt and some gladiator wedges.

  1. You look more like a cougar going catsy (rowr!)in the picture. Very cute (hawt!)! I am with you on feeling like a bad-ass (or was it rock star?) with a slight nudge and encouragement of something leather in an outfit.
You have had so many funny experiences. Makes me feel sad about not achieving many of those when I was a kid. 🙁

    Loads of love,
    Dips

  2. I totally bought pleather pants in middle school, too. They were red and from Wal-Mart and horrible in every way.

This outfit, however, is awesome. How do I not have black skinny jeans?! And I almost bought that top but didn't because I opted for the floral tank instead (oh, how I wish I could've splurged and gotten both). We have the same Gap-taste.

  3. Wow I love how in the last outfit the belt was more "sweet" and in this one it's bold! Great remixing!

  4. hahhaa your story reminded me of the friends episode (season 5, ep 11, not obsessed at all) where ross thinks leather pants are awesome and wears them on a first date. they shrink about three sizes when he gets sweaty and he ends up in the bathroom trying to put on lotion, baby powder, whatever so that he can get them back on and finish his date!

i love your blog and you are too adorable!

  5. hah!Nothing screams comfort like plastic pants in Texas heat! Oh, to be 14 and think you look good in everything again! 🙂
I love the shape of this tunic on you. It looks so great and hits at the perfect length!

  6. I kind of thought you were wearing a karate top and belt when I saw this photo (hee), but then I looked closer. Very cute! Love the black skinnies.

Also, how much are the new blogger templates? Love it!

  7. I so owned a pair of pleather pants in 7th grade. Stuck to the bus seat. Why I thought they were a good thing to own in Tucson shows my 13 year old brain power 🙂 You however look adorable, I love the tunic & belt combo!

    xx,
    Dee

  8. You make leather look so good! and this post totally made me laugh because it also reminded me of that Friends episode (via Kimberly, good thing I checked to see if anyone else was reminded of that or else I would have look like a fool repeating what she said) where Ross is in the bathroom putting baby powder on his legs to get his leather pants back on. I'm sure your 14 year old self was nothing like Ross Gellar 🙂

  9. I love your shoes, they are really nice 🙂 I would love to own a pair of leather pants, unfortunately I think they would look terrible on my figure!

  10. Love the leather (fake or not) belt & sandals. Gawd – I don't even want to remember some of the atrocities I wore back in high school (mint green prom dress complete with matching bolero jacket anyone?!)

  11. I really, really love this look! The more I grow up, the more I realize my favorite outfits are the simple ones with a little bit of flare/pop. Very cute!

  12. Thanks for sharing! That story is hilarious!

I must tell you that every time I've looked at your blog challenge, I think you're cheating!!! I always go back and reference your entry where you showed us all your clothing, I just can't believe it's all the same stuff! You are doing a ridiculously good job.

  13. I love your blog and I think you are just so adorable!!
I was wondering whewre your necklaces from today are from.

    thanks

  14. Hey Kendi –

Just stumbled onto your fashion blog that will be sure to inspire me and, at the same time, make me feel terribly inept at dressing myself every morning. You look beautiful! The pictures make me excited to have Bryan do our family photos in May and make me wish you were coming along as Stylist and Snarky Commentator. Eh? It would totally work. I'm glad you guys are having so much fun!

  15. I love this look and your rock star poses! Your pleather pants story brought back some brutal memories. Mine were hot pink snakeskin and I thought I was SO cool. Oh high school.

  16. They weren't pleather (thank goodness), but I did own some faux black snackskin pants in 9th grade- I could be in denial or have rewritten memories, but they were actually pretty comfortable and I would get compliments on them. Ah the fashion mistakes of our youth. Belt is amazing by the way!
