Technically we are still in full summer mode. Technically. But I can tell that my fashion mood is moving slowly but surely into fall. We’ve still got plenty of weeks before we even see a hint of cooler weather but that doesn’t mean I can’t break out the all black in August. Black is back, baby. And especially in denim.
Black jeans have certainly made their case as an essential for fall. I would reach for my black denim just as much as I would my other pair of regular jeans, last fall and winter. This pair in particular is from Old Navy — it’s their built in sculpt denim. AKA they hold all the shape and fit perfectly to mine. I decided that it never hurts to have another pair of black denim on hand, even if it’s going to be warm for a few more months.
I initially wanted to pick up the pink version of this top, but my size was nowhere to be found so I settled with the black. Turns out I like the black version so much more. It’s starting early this year —Â my pre-fall feels. You know the tides are changing when I choose black over pink. Someone take my temperature. (Seriously though, love this top! Perfect with cut-offs right now too!)

Love this look! Did you stick with the regular top or get the tall?
This is the regular, in medium. 🙂
I’m having the same problem! If you consider being ready for fall fashion a problem. Which I don’t.

Nice fashion, you won new follower 🙂
Have you washed these jeans yet? I always have a problem with my ON black demin fading the first wash (on cold, gentle cycle, with other darks). If so, did they fade? What’s your advice for caring for these? Just bough a pair (LOVE them!) but can’t bring myself to wash them yet. {Hello, peanut butter smears from my toddlers’ grubby hands!}
Great question! I hadn’t washed them in the post but with black jeans I typically turn them inside out first and wash on cold with a more delicate detergent. Like a free and clear type of detergent. It seems to be a bit more gentle on the colors and on denim in general. But it seems like you do the same!! I also don’t wash denim a ton — that’s hard with a toddler! And at the end of the day, sadly black jeans just fade. I have heard that if you add a cup of vinegar to dark denim or black denim and even salt, it helps keep the color! But probably my best advice is wash less often!
Thanks! Will do.
PS: Been following you since 2011 when you also blogged about farting in yoga class. Haven’t been on your site in a while, but saw you on the ON ad in my FB newsfeed. I gasped & thought, “oh, my friend Kendi is on Old Navy’s ad! I know her!” So, HI old friend! 🙂
haha hi!
Black denim and moto jackets are my Fall wardrobe essentials.?
