Give Me Lip

When a classic outfit comes together the best accessory you can add is a classic lip color. I feel like lipstick is often underrated when it comes to giving an outfit the final push. Over the years I’ve come to rely on lipsticks to finish my look especially if it’s a simple look like this. Since there is nothing more classic than a white blouse and denim, why not add a classic bright lip? I took a twist on the classic white blouse with an off the shoulder look and decided instead of bright red lips to use a soft coral. One of my favorites as of late has been the Laura Mercier Lip Parfait Creamy Colourbalm in Creamsicle. It’s just the right amount of color, it doesn’t feel overwhelming or too much. That’s how a classic look works — it’s just the right amount. 
Since I’m a lipstick-all-day-leaving-stains-on-coffee-mugs-all-over-town kind of girl, I have developed a trick or two to keep my lipstick on my lips look fresh as long as I can.  To keep my lipstick on all day, I start with a lip pencil. I typically go nude or a spice color. For this look I started with the Laura Mercier Lip Pencil in Naked and lined my lip shape. (I keep true to my lip shape but you can always slightly overline your top lip to give a more plump look.) I fill in my lips with the liner as well — this gives my lips a good base for my lipstick to stay. Give it a reason to stick around you know? Then on my Laura Mercier lipstick goes. It’s so creamy that I don’t put a balm on or anything before and it has enough glossy that I don’t put a lipgloss over the top. Just one and done to complete this look. I touch up throughout the day, if and when I need it. 
My go to lipsticks as of late have been this Laura Mercier Lip Parfait Creamy Colourbalm in Creamsicle and the Laura Mercier Creme Smooth Lip Color in Antique Pink (seen in yesterday’s outfit). You can’t go wrong with a soft coral and muted pink and they are a bit less intimidating than a bright red lip. This is hands down the easiest step to take to make your whole look feel complete. I feel like lipstick is my best kept secret and number one way to look put together quickly.

  2. Makeup related question! How do you get your eye makeup to stay put in the Texas heat? I my eyeliner is forever creasing when it’s super hot out, and it drives me NUTS. I also have a bachelorette party later this month in Savannah (holy humidity), and I’d like to look cute, at least for pictures!
    I’ve tried eyelid primers- they don’t always work and sometimes look a bit odd. What do you use? Help!

    1. Have you tried the Kat von D Tattoo Liner? Has the best staying power out of any eyeliner (pencil or liquid) that I have ever used.

    2. Hi sister! Okay so probably our humidity levels are a bit different, but I use Maybelline Line Stiletto and swear by it. (It’s on Amazon for like $4: http://bit.ly/KELiner) I do go over it 1-2 more times just for kicks and it typically will stay on all day. Usually by evening I have to re-apply it for the color but it definitely doesn’t crease or run. I don’t use eyelid primers because I feel like they are what makes my makeup crease!! But I do go ahead and put my foundation over my eye just to give it a good base. (Foundation not tinted moisturizer though bc that will definitely make my eyelid greasy AF.) I need to just get my life together do a full on tutorial instead of writing this out. 😉 AND yes to Amy’s comment below. I’ve heard good things about that brand!

  14. Oh my god. This is the most perfect take on the off-the-shoulder trend I’ve seen to date. I’m honest to god in love with it! You look fantastic. I love that you’ve paired your simplistic classic look with a bright coral lip. As much as I love a bright red, it’s really refreshing to see a different color pump up a classic inspired outfit!
