My gal Sal over at Already Pretty is a genius. She’s deemed this week to be the Summer Black-Out of 2010 — a challenge to anyone who is brave enough to forgo wearing black for 1 week. As a roller coast aficionado and someone who likes to play with fire specifically on votive candles, I like to consider myself brave. With enthusiasm and the very opposite of black, I joined in this week. Black? Black who?

Cue the billowy blouse with a flower made out of colored sequins.

I asked my husband if I could hold a sparkler while taking pictures today. It seemed appropriate in my stand against wearing black this week. He emphatically said no. Not because it would be ridiculous but because he doesn’t trust me with small explosive devices anymore. Ever since I blew up dinner, he gets nervous when I’m around corn starch and fire. So just use your imagination until I can get my hands on some fireworks or maybe some long matches.

  1. This is a great challenge. Probably going on two years ago now I decided that I wasn't going to buy black anymore, my closet was full of it! I initially tried just for the season and then it just kept going. Now I buy back sometimes but I feel really guilty when I do…it's just not the same, haha.

I think you should totally go get some fireworks and have them going off in the background of your next shoot. Just saying.

  3. Adorable! I love the neutral colors and the pop of sparkles! You sound me in the kitchen lol. Too bad the husband outlawed sparklers

  4. Oh my gosh I love that top. so jealous… Meanwhile I too am banned from explosive devises… ever since last 4th of july when I lit a firework and forgot to let go before it went off

  5. That top is absolutely stunning!

I just read about the no-black challenge! I could totally swing that for summer; winter? Now that's a different story.

  6. You look amazing! I love the earrings. I only have 2 black t-shirts and and a black work skirt for summer so the no-black challenge is not going to be a challenge for me!

  7. Good luck with that challenge. I love your outfit today! And I'm sure your pictures would've been amazing with some sparklers…..sidenote…sparklers are illegal in Virginia because they are deemed too dangerous! Ha!

  8. I once sent a box to my father's house for storage. On the phone with him a few weeks later, he said, "By the way, that box of costumes you sent arrived." I replied, "Dad, those aren't costumes. They're my clothes." And his response? "But…the sequins…"

Needless to say, I totally love this look.

  9. I adore this shirt. Also, great addition with the belt. You have inspired me to forgoe black for this upcoming week. (The weekend might be a challenge for me.)

  10. What a great idea for this new challenge! Can't wait to see some lovely non-black outfits coming up. I love that big sequined flower. I have a similar one from J. Crew. Hahaha you can save your sparkler wishes for 4th of July– it's not that far away now!

  11. Love your wit!

  12. I don't know if you need fireworks with that blouse! SO fun, and I love how you kept the rest of the outfit muted.

  13. Thanks for confirming that about the Summer Wandering Tank. I love the vibriance of the coral orange color, but on Anthro's site it looked more like a construction site cone. Thanks again.

  14. aaaah! i was trying to figure out what the black-out was. i was worried it meant no t-shirts. i live in t-shirts so i figured i was excluded. but i DON'T live in black. so i'm in!!!
