{Shop: top, bottom, shoes}
You guys, I think I”m running out of clothes. Our washer has been broken for almost two weeks (we get a new one today) and I’ve been trying to save my 30 for 30 clothes for next week. But I’ve just realized between heaps of laundry and my reserved pile, I’ve got nothing to wear. So this is something from my 30 for 30. I went for two of the most basic pieces — a t-shirt and jeans. You can’t get much more basic than a top and a bottom. It’s a blank canvas just waiting to be painted with accessories. So consider this is my pre-game outfit. A 30 for 30 prelude, if you will.
If you need me, I’ll be doing about 6 loads of laundry today.
And now a thank you letter for my sister:
Dear Sister,
Thank you for the cute hat and the adorable necklace that you gave me. I wore them both and really liked them. It was very thoughtful of you to think of me.
Also, I forgive you for partially strangling me that one time when we were kids, for always sitting in the front seat of the car, for telling me that Santa wasn’t real and for taking the better Barbie dolls. It’s been a long time coming but I’m finally ready to let it go.
Love,Kendi

Pretty! You are a good poser. I wish I was better at posing.
That clutch is really cute! Birthday presents from sisters are the best!
You always manage to look so chic, even in basically jeans and a tshirt!
You are a saint for forgiving your sister for such atrocities. Do you think my brother will forgive me for throwing Rubics cube at his head (it left an awesome goose egg) when he was 5 if I give him a hat like that? 🙂
this is hilarious! you are never short on clever, wit, or charm as this is everything and more. that hat is lovely, and you are only too kind to forgive your sister for lifelong atrocities in return for a few gifts. 🙂

I've totally felt that way too, when I'm at a loss of seemingly clever quips and yips. I think you did a good job, though. Sibling rivalry outed in a charming letter is priceless. 🙂
PS: I really dig those shoes, I think I'm in love with Jeffrey Campbell….'s shoes.

So simple yet so chic! Still trying to commit to the 30 for 30, I mean i'm broke so the no shopping will be a breeze, but with this crazy weather we are having high 60s during the week and low 40s and rainy during the weekends, it will truly be a CHALLENGE!
Gorgeous.
I have yet to forgive my brothers for tying my hands and feet together with karate belts while my parents were gone, and locking me in my bedroom.
Love that top! and you manage to look svelte in any kind of outfit. I'm totally jealous.
I was the older sister who sat in the front and took the best barbies, so you're pushing it with me today. But it's okay, because I forgive you for giving me style envy, work distractions, and lots of inappropriate giggles in class.
xoxo!
Aw, sweet. Sisters can be great. Lovely photos, and the shoes continue to dazzle me.

Aaah, sister gifts are the best. My lil sister/best friend lives way way far away in El Salvador as a volunteer worker now. I'd forgive her ANYTHING (even the Rain Torture she use to give me, you know where they pin you down and pound on your chest over and over with there pointer finger, and you are so mad that all you can do is laugh histarically!) if she could just move close to me again.
Love this post. 🙂

I SAW that clutch at the outlet — I was totally drawn to it, but didn't know what to carry it with… You made it look so cute!
PS – Earlier this week I saw a tee that read "Little Brothers Get Luigi" and I thought touche… And I sent it to my little brother. Teeheehee ;]
There is someone so realaxed, yet very polished about this look.
Just amazing!

Ahh I love this outfit! I like the blouse.
That is a very cute hat, I always wish I suited hats more and I try them on and then think "oh god why" and take the hat off.
I have hat envy.
LOL I'm glad you are finally able to move on.. 🙂
LOL….super cute post…..love the shoes and adorable hat:)

I am new to your blog and I love it. I love your sense of fashion. You are very pretty too
You are so kind to forgive your sister. Good thing she gives such great gifts 🙂
Those shoes are amazing. Love them!
I can't wait for the 30 for 30 🙂
One time, I boxed my sister's ears. I think I had read about it in Anne of Green Gables or Little Women or something and thought it was a good idea. It wasn't. Sorry, M.
Also, you look adorable in that hat.
The accessories make this outfit, but I'm kind of digging that shirt, too… And it's on sale…
Love that top!

Oh yes! Like the outfit but mostly I love your hair. Go mid parting!
Haha! I really wanted to wear one of my 30 pieces today too, but I decided I better save it!
It's amazing what some great accessories can do for an outfit~ this is great!
I'm in the same boat as you with trying to save my 30 for 30 items until next week. I was really tempted to wear one of the skirts yesterday, but I held strong. That has to be the perfect tee! Is it bad if I go shopping in preparation for the next 30 days?

Styling basics is one of the most challenging things to do. Anyone can go to the store/vintage shop and pick up an outfit but when you have a "blank canvas" what are you going to do with it… and OWN the outfit? Looking flawless <3
Hi! I'm new here and loove your blog! I'm turning 30 next month and was looking for something to do to celebrate and I'm really loving your 30 for 30 project!! The only problem is I'm traveling and out of the country for the next 3 weeks so I can't do it with you all but I think I might try it when I get back. Thanks for the idea!!
I. love. those. shoes.
I don't think I've ever seen a blank canvas look so great! I've been reading your blog for such a long time and I love seeing your style evolve. Every outfit you wear is so inspiring!
Ah reasons I wish I had a sister #103. My two brothers don't have that good of taste in accessories 🙂
Great look!
Congratulations on the new washer!!! I think you know you're a grown up when you get excited about new appliances.
Cute Post. I had my dryer break on me when I was doing clothes. So I know how you feel about those 6 loads of laundry.

The gift from your sister I think made this outfit! Love it.
Just Better Together
I'm getting excited for the 30 for 30!!! You look great in your basics. That's true beauty I think, if you can look beautiful in a plain tee and jeans.
Love this prelude to the 30 for 30…and looveee seeing the Jeffrey Campbell's again!! Are they going to be a part of your 30 for 30?
Small Time Style
i am new to your blog, and gave you a shout out on mine!
KENDI!!!
I never comment, so you don't know me. But I must tell you how Clever I think your new download offering is. I am going to get it. Now. And I don't generally buy things.
Well Done,
Erica
simple and beautiful=)
Great stuff! My hat's off to you for being able to pull off that hat. My head, on the other hand, is made (read: oddly-shaped) for berets only.
i love that necklace! a lot. where can i get it or one like it? anyone have any suggestion? thankss
cute outfit!
i thought i'd let you know that your 30 for 30 inspired me to do a clothing challenge for the month that suited the problems i have with my wardrobe (i'd have no problem wearing the same 30 pieces over and over)
check it out if you get the chance:

i wander, i wonder
You look so cute!! Your letter to your sister made me laugh out loud. 😀
cute clutch!
you're right, the look may be basic, but you look adorable in this. and i love the necklace. picking out my 30 right now to prep for my post!
This is a great outfit! I really love that necklace, too.
And thanks for making the 30 for 30 guide. I was really starting to stress a bit about how to put something together that wasn't just 30 dresses, but now I'm looking forward to going through my closet and choosing pieces!
Ugh, I have 6 loads of laundry and I have to pay to do it. What is that? How is that fair?
http://greetingsfromseattlewa.blogspot.com/
I love basic fashion. It's sweet and simple. 🙂
Such pretty pieces – and what a sweet sister you have. The bag is so charming and I adore the relaxed feel of this ensemble. Have a nice weekend.
I've been trying to avoid my 30 for 30 pile too- I know that in 15 days I'll be sick of all those items but for now they're all I want to wear.
THIS is how jeans and a tee should be done. Those platforms are fabulous.
Kendi! Can you do a few posts about accessorizing? I feel like I can put together a pretty decent outfit, but I never know when I am accessorizing too much. How do you keep from going overboard?
I'd love to see some pics of your outfits before you accessorize them and after.
LOVE your blog and your writing.
Simple. Pretty.
Great prelude!
Jesse — I sure can! What a good post idea, thanks friend.
Those shoes are absolutely adorable!!!

I love this outfit! It's awesome casual-ness meets cute with a purpose. Love it.
This outfit is positively adorable!!
